Private fishing charters out of Playa Sámara, Costa Rica, on Acuarelas, our 24 ft (7.3 m) boat with a Yamaha 75. Every trip is a private charter: the price is per boat, not per person. Up to 4 guests, plus one extra guest for an added fee. Children count as guests.
Inshore trips stay close to the coast, working rock formations, beaches and river mouths for roosterfish, jacks, cubera snapper and grouper. We cast poppers, jig and fish live bait. Fly fishing on request. Our family trip mixes light-tackle fishing with looking for whales, dolphins and sea turtles, with light rods for kids and beginners.
Acuarelas carries a live well and a fish finder, and has partial shade only. Bring a hat and long sleeves.
Included: water, soft drinks and beer, snacks like chips, and lunch on full days. Rods, reels, tackle, bait, fuel, crew, and the small shuttle boat out to your boat. Feel free to bring your own drinks, alcohol included. We'll keep them cold for you.
Not included: fishing licenses. Costa Rica requires one per angler over 16, about $17 for 8 days. We'll walk you through it once you've booked. Tipping isn't required, but it is often customary.
We always release roosterfish, sailfish, marlin and jacks. For other fish, we follow the rules and the captain's call.
Before you book: there is no toilet on board. To get on, you wade through shallow water to a small shuttle boat, then step across to your boat. Both move with the swell. Life jackets on board in every size.

We left shore at 7:30 AM; after an hour of travel in somewhat choppy surf, we arrived at the reef for bottom fishing. Several other boats were already on the reef but our Captain chose not to join the crowd. Selecting other more less-pressured areas of the reef, we quickly landed a huge snapper. After 3 hours we had eight whoppers! The guys were attentive to our needs and did a great job. Highly recommend these folks!

we had an incredible experience - caught five huge fish (i have never fished before, so i may have been easy to please). we went way out, among true local fisherman, which was cool to see lots of approaches to fishing. then the crew got wind of a whale in the area, so we tracked this incredible whale pair, seeing sevetal sea turtles along the way. and then they offered to let us swim “at the island” and we couldn”t turn that down. pura vida day!

How cancellations work
You can cancel or modify your booking up to 7 days before the trip date, free of charge. If you cancel or modify your booking later, or fail to show up, you'll forfeit 100% of what you've paid.
