Jim is a little rough on the edges, but I appreciated it because it was obvious his focus was on finding fish. It appeared he was frustrated because It was a slow day with rain and cold conditions. Starting the trip at 3:45 AM appeared insane, but there were tons of boats right behind us. Jim was aware of this and he worked his butt off rowing to keep us in the holes where the bites occurred. I wish the boat limited out, but it didn’t. That’s fishing! I think Jim appeared very knowledgeable about the river and gave us the best chance to succeed. We were one of the few that caught fish that day. Thanks Jim, hope to see you again on the Kenai or Kasilof in the future.

Jim Rusk is a fantastic fishing guide. Professional. Has al the gear. Great boat. Knows the best spots on the kenai river. We caught 2 30 lb king salmon in the first hour!
We are here at a time when the Salmon isn’t the best of the season. Jim offered any kind of Salmon fishing we wanted and clearly explained at this time we “might” get Salmon if we spend all day and get lucky or enjoy Trout fishing catch & release all day which we chose. And he still landed us a beautiful Coho keeper as a bonus! (Ok my wife of course caught it!) Jim is awesome, gracious & patient, we will never forget this awesome day!!! Thank to Jim for a beautiful day!
Very professional put us on the fish got limit cleaned and back. Jim know this area
Great memories!
I was born in Soldotna Alaska in 1966, to parents who have homesteaded in Alaska since 1953. As a young boy, I spent my summers fishing on the banks of the Kenai River and became an avid fisherman at a very young age. When I was a teen, I often worked in the summers as a bait boy on some of the first charter boats in this area. By the time I graduated from high school and was old enough to get my guide license, I knew that was what I wanted to do. In 1987 I started Jim Rusk Fishing. As a fisherman, I enjoy all types of fishing and will always use whatever technique I feel is best to give my customers the best chance at success.
