Screaming Eagles offers an excellent charter for fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. The company is based in Neavitt, Maryland, which is 15 minutes from St. Michaels. The crew know the hottest spots where the fish are hiding in and around the Bay, the Choptank River, and Miles River. Whether you have never held a fishing rod in your life or you are a hard-core angler, a day out with Captain Herman is a lot of fun.
You will go out aboard a 32-foot Sport fishing boat, originally built in 1977 and fully up hauled in 2015. It comes powered by a 380 HP Cummins Diesel engine for a fast and comfortable ride. Perfect for accommodating up to six anglers, the vessel gestures a 13-foot beam and a large cabin with the latest navigational electronics and big moving windows for a lot of fresh air. There is a live well loaded with bait, since you will be doing a lot of fishing. And for you maximum comfort on the water, the vessel is equipped with a toilet.
Fishing on the Chesapeake Bay can get your hands full of exciting species. You simply can't miss the opportunity to target Rockfish (Striped Bass), the official Maryland State Fish. Those are tough fighters and make nice table fare.
The Striped Bass season begins May 1-July 31. August 1-31Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel only ( no Striped Bass). September 1-December 5 Striped Bass are in. Captain Herman uses spinning reels with cut or live bait, which is caught fresh every day. In the fall, as bait is no longer available, the crew resort back to trolling or jigging. When the water temperature gets warm, Captain Herman trolls for Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. Later in July through September, you can spin with live or cut bait. If you feel like doing something different, you can also go bowfishing for Bull Nose Stingray in June.
All trips come with all quality rods and tackle, along with lures, bait, and license. The crew will send you catch home filleted and packaged, ready to go straight into the frying pan.

great time on the water today Captain and the first mate were very knowledgeable my son and I caught our limit of Blues in under an hour and a half

Thank you for the great review! It was a pleasure having you both out on the water and catching some fish !! Capt. Herman Haddaway
My daughters took me out fishing for Father’s Day and it did not disappoint. The captain was on the fish from the start and all six of us caught our first striped bass within 5 minutes of pulling up to the bridge to fish. Would highly recommend booking with Screaming Eagles! We will be back.

What a beautiful morning! Perfect temperature, wind and tide. It was a pleasure having you and the family out on the water and catching fish ! Capt. Herman Haddaway

Hubs & I had a super fun day fishing on the Screaming Eagle! Capt H & first mate, B were great! Some thick rockfish were caught & I got to see so many beautiful birds of the Eastern Shore—even a Bald Eagle. We will definitely fish with Capt H again on our next trip to St Michael’s!!

Thank you for the graet review. Look forward to getting back out again !!
The trip was an overall net-positive, but with a couple caveats. Neither the Captain nor the mate were super friendly at first, but both warmed up as the morning progressed, and overall that was not a factor. The boat itself was a bit smaller than expected, which was okay– we were a three-person party, so it's not as though we needed a lot of space. That being said, inside the cabin had the pilot's seat, as seat for the First Mate, and a table with seating for two (for a three-person party). The size of the boat also meant that it was tossed a bit more than a larger boat probably would have. As guests, we probably would have benefited from a heads up regarding the catch limit beforehand. Again, nothing that the crew could have done about that, but again, it's about managing expectations. For example, the rockfish were biting, and we quickly reached our catch limit of one per person– which we were unaware of at first, and were a little disappointed, if understanding, about the need to fish other species. We were a little surprised at the end to learn that catching five rockfish (party of 3 and crew of 2) meant that we left with three rockfish rather than five, but again, had that been explained up front, then expectations would have been different. All in all, we recommend Screaming Eagle, as the crew is very knowledgeable of the waters, and where to find the fish, and the boat and equipment was more than adequate to put the objective (getting fish) well within reach. With a couple tweaks this would have been a great experience.

Apparently you did not read anything on this platform. there is a full description of the boat including the size. I have written many reports that are published on this platform that explains all the catch and size limits. The State of Maryland dictate how many fish you are legally allowed to be in possession of which is one fish per person. You should do your research before booking any charter boat. Capt. Booked this for me and my son for his 13th birthday. We had a great time, the captain and first mate were friendly and helpful, and were bound and determined to ensure we caught fish. My son caught his first rockfish, and even got a tshirt from the captain!

It was a pleasure having you out on the water ! Weather cooperated along with some fish ! Thank you for the great review!! Capt. Herman Haddaway
