Marlin Everywhere – 15 Striped Marlin Si

On June 14, we departed Cabo San Lucas running a heading of 120°. At approximately 4 miles offshore, we got our first bite of the day when a mahi mahi struck a bait and was successfully brought aboard. We then continued working parallel to the coastline, moving in to about 2 miles off Cabeza de Ballena, where a striped marlin attacked a bait. After an exciting 40-minute fight, we successfully landed the fish, making it the highlight of the trip. With the marlin on board, we continued working the area, making several passes within a 3-mile radius. The persistence paid off when another mahi mahi struck a blue and white Flying Fish lure, giving us our second dorado of the day. On June 12, we began the day running offshore toward the 95 Spot. Although we found plenty of flying fish and promising conditions, we were unable to generate any strikes. With no action offshore, we changed strategies and moved inshore to target roosterfish along the coastline. During the transition, we had a close encounter with a roosterfish and successfully landed a Spanish mackerel (sierra) on a pink Rapala lure. We then worked the coastline from the Grand Velas area to Santa María Point, where we observed several bait balls and spotted additional roosterfish in the area. Despite multiple opportunities and presentations, the fish remained selective and refused to bite. ⸻ Conditions: * Abundant flying fish offshore * Multiple bait balls along the coastline * Roosterfish present but not actively feeding * Good inshore water conditions ⸻ Summary: A technical day featuring: * 1 Sierra (Spanish mackerel) landed * Multiple roosterfish sightings * Several bait balls located * Productive inshore scouting conditions Although the roosterfish were reluctant to bite, the day provided valuable sightings and ended with a quality sierra on board before returning to Cabo San Lucas Marina. ???☀️

On June 11, we headed toward La Herradura, beginning our troll approximately 3 miles offshore. Within the first five minutes of trolling, a mahi mahi struck a blue and white Flying Fish lure, giving us an early fish and a great start to the day. Continuing along the 5-mile line, a powerful blue marlin attacked a green and yellow lure. What followed was the fight of the day — an incredible battle lasting 2 hours and 10 minutes. Despite the crew’s efforts, the fish eventually came unhooked after an unforgettable fight. Working parallel to the coast at approximately 6 miles offshore, another mahi mahi struck a rigged bait and was successfully landed. The action continued when a striped marlin attacked a purple trolling lure. After a brief hookup, the fish managed to throw the hook and escape.
