Captainctours, 5 G's Fishing Charters & Tours, and Triple D's Aqua Adventures all received great reviews from families who booked fishing trips in Bahamas.

The most popular fish species you can target are Great Barracuda, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), and Wahoo. Top fishing techniques include Light Tackle, Deep Sea Fishing, and Trolling. Reef fishing, offshore fishing, and inshore fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

With pristine waters that take your breath away, well over 700 islands, and more than 50 set world fishing records, the Bahamas is the ultimate dream destination of every angler. To navigate this wealth of options, you’ll need an experienced local, and that’s where Bahamas fishing charters come into play. With a professional guide by your side, you’ll get the most out of your time on the water.

Owing to some of the clearest waters in the world, fly fishing in the Bahamas has a stellar reputation. Here, you can spend days going after Bonefish, “the Ghost of the Flats,” and leave wanting more. Want a monster on the line? Head to the sandy flats in spring and summer in search of majestic Tarpon and Permit.

Offshore anglers should go to the deep outer waters to witness the fantastic Billfish bite and take part in unforgettable Yellowfin Tuna battles. White and Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Mackerel, and Tuna species are all in the cards. Explore the reefs, and hook into a variety of Snappers,Groupers, Hogfish, Amberjack, and Triggerfish.

The sheer number of fishing tournaments is proof of just how magnificent fishing action is in the Bahamas. There are dozens of events to participate in or simply enjoy, from the Bimini Wahoo Mayhem Tournament to the Annual Blue Marlin Battle.

Whichever island you choose, chances are you’ll find plenty of Bahamas fishing charters. The trip offer is diverse as are the country’s fish! Spend several hours fly fishing the sandy flats or several days in the search of a deep sea trophy, it’s up to you. Bimini, Nassau, Freeport, Exuma, and Walker’s Cay are all a great starting point for your angling adventures.

Rules & Regulations

Most charter captains will provide fishing licenses, but it’s always a good idea to check with your guide before your trip. Also bear in mind that spearguns are banned in the Bahamas, so any spearfishing will be done exclusively with Hawaiian slings.

January

When the temperature stays in the 70ºF ballpark during January, you know you’re in a fishing paradise. This is probably the best time to go after monster Wahoo, while fly fishing for Bonefish is excellent too.

February

The Wahoo bite is still going strong. In the offshore waters, anything from Sailfish to Mahi Mahi and Grouper is biting. Feel free to sign up for a local tournament if you’re up for a challenge. It’s peak tourist season, though, so book well in advance.

March

The fishing pace is picking up all over the country due to the presence of fantastic species in the deep waters. As for inshore, Permit will join the local Bonefish population, so the stage is set for a fly adventure.

April

This is the best time to sign up for an all-star offshore experience. With White and Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, and, of course, Tuna, you’ve got a ticket for the trip of a lifetime. Who knows, maybe you’ll land a new personal record!

May

There’s no time to catch a break as far as fishing in the Bahamas is concerned. Tarpon come in during the month in big numbers, so get your best flies ready. Want diversity? How about some adrenaline-pumping Tuna fishing?

June

Go out after Sailfish while they’re still there. After June, they’ll mostly be gone for the year, so make the best of it before they set sail. You can combine it with some reef action for Amberjack, Snapper, and Grouper.

July

The main attraction for a July fishing trip in the Bahamas is the impressive Marlin action. Those more interested in bottom feeders can feast on Snapper and Grouper galore, or go to the deepest waters in search of Swordfish.

August

You won’t find a lot of tourists when the weather is so hot, but the Bonefish are absolutely on fire! If you can stand the heat, you’ll be rewarded for it. Offshore, anything from Barracuda to Queen Snapper is fair game.

September

The rainy weather typical for September makes for less-than-stellar flats fishing, but the reefs will more than make up for it, with plenty of Amberjack, Barracuda, and other bottom feeders to go around.

October

This is a great time to be in the Bahamas, whether for fishing, tourism, or preferably both. Flats fishing is picking up again with an army of Bonefish at your disposal, and, in the offshore realm, you can look forward to Snapper, Grouper, and Barracuda.

November

The Wahoo bite is getting stronger as the year draws to a close – a great reason to host the annual Wahoo Smackdown. You can also head to the reefs and look for some delicious fish like Grouper and Snapper. In the flats, Bonefish are as feisty as ever.

December

Come Boxing Day, people in the Bahamas celebrate what’s known as Junkanoo. When you’re not partying, go fishing for Wahoo, or get a combo trip with a Bahamas fishing charter and chase after Mahi Mahi, Barracuda, and Grouper.

Many of the charters are overpriced. $6-700 is fair for half day. $800 and up is ludicrous. If people stop overpaying the prices will moderate.

The only problem is we visited in early June which was sort of the rainy period in the Bahamas. I highly recommend the fishing there but I would go outside of May/June.

Spending time with a guide helps to learn the behavior patterns of these spooky fish. Also very helpful in learning how to spot them cruising the flats.

The water gets deep closer to shore than you think. It is a short trip to deep water, a 4 hour trip is efficient. Reel that fish in quick, sharks will snag your fish before you know it.

The inshore reef fishing, bonefish on a fly rod and snapper with a bait caster, was a great experience. So many types of fish, but not enough time to catch them. There is also so much more to the trip than just fishing. The ecology of the area is incredible, sharks, rays tarpon, barracuda, turtles.. Not to mention the most beautiful water I've ever seen, and I have fished in many places in the world. My fun meter was pegged.

We just spent a wonderful day with Captain Deno , Mario and Russel . A really great day . Fishing started off slow but the crew worked hard and changed locations 3-4 times . Around 12 the bite really turned on for about an hour . Finished off the afternoon at some bar on an island , had a few beers then made ceviche with some of our fresh catch . A really pleasant experience. Two thumbs up for this crew .

I have been in many fishing trips and this one was the best. I wasn't expecting to catch much if any with the waves that were out today. But captain "C" put us in fish at every spot he took us to. The seas were angry my friend. Like an old man returning soup at a deli. And we slammed them. Between the 2 of us, we probably caught over 60 fish. If I'm ever in the Bahamas again, I will definitely hit up Captain "C".

Excellent trip for a 1/2 day. Reef fishing and plenty of fish caught for dinner. Short ride from the marina over to some reefs in 15-16 feet of water. Good size fish were striking and we were busy bringing them in. Safe and clean boat. Family friendly. Good equipment and tackle.

We took our 3 kids in the morning. The water was a little rough due to the wind, but Capt Ted made sure we still got to fish while keeping us safe. He was very knowledgeable about the species and patient with all of us while we learned the hand fishing technique. Both Ted and Enoch made sure that we all had chances to catch something. Highly recommend this charter!! Thank you!!
