Fishing in Guam

Experience world-class angling in Guam, a premier U.S. territory where dramatic underwater topography meets legendary fishing opportunities minutes from shore. Surrounded by the Mariana Trench and volcanic formations, Guam’s crystal-clear Pacific waters host an exceptional density of game fish. Big game enthusiasts target Blue Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, and Mahi Mahi year-round, with peak Marlin action in summer and consistent Wahoo runs from fall through spring. The island’s unique geography allows trophy species to feed remarkably close to land, ensuring high catch rates within ¼ mile of the coastline.

Nearshore reefs burst with biodiversity, including Snapper, Grouper, Jacks, and Rainbow Runner. Five protected marine reserves—like Tumon Bay and Achang Reef Flat—shelter over 950 fish species amid vibrant coral gardens. Charter boats frequently navigate to productive zones like Galvez Banks and Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), where Skipjack Tuna and Barracuda add nonstop action. Whether trolling for pelagic giants or exploring reef ecosystems, Guam delivers unforgettable battles against a backdrop of sapphire waters and thriving sea life.

Guam Fishing Seasons

January

It's dry season in Guam, which can be the perfect opportunity to venture offshore for some deep sea fishing! Expect lots of action from Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and Skipjack Tuna.

February

Mahi Mahi are at their peak, and the Wahoo bite isn't bad either! Bottom fishing will bring you Snapper and Grouper, while a bit of angling on the reefs could produce anything from Parrotfish to Rainbow Runner.

March

Enjoy the final month of the dry season, with clear sunny skies and an excellent chance at landing Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Skipjack Tuna, and more!

April

As the seasons shift, the fishing is starting to change around here, too. You can still expect lots of Wahoo and Mahi Mahi action, with an early bite from some of the summer big game fish Guam is known for.

May

Come May, all the major players are on the scene—from Wahoo to Blue Marlin, Sailfish, and Yellowfin Tuna. The weather should still be fair enough to head offshore.

June

June marks the height of big game fishing in Guam, when Tuna, Sailfish, Blue Marlin and other fish are biting vigorously. Keep an eye on the forecast–typhoon season is just around the corner.

July

Wet season is in full swing, so be sure check the weather before you head out in case of typhoons. If the seas are too rough, you can still dabble in some excellent big game fishing close to shore.

August

Target Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish, and more less than half a mile off the coast, or see what the reefs have in store! Trevally, Rainbow Runner, and scores of other tropical fish are sure to intrigue you.

September

Wahoo often appear in larger numbers for a second peak season in fall. Fishing for Marlin, Tuna, and Sailfish is declining slightly this month, as the wet season carries on.

October

Weather permitting, you can enjoy good fishing for Wahoo and Skipjack Tuna in October. As always, the reefs have plenty of colorful surprises in store.

November

Guam's rainy season is coming to a close this month, but there may be a typhoon to come so don't head too far offshore just yet. Mahi Mahi are starting to reappear.

December

As the weather begins to calm, you can expect more opportunities to travel farther from shore. Wahoo, Skipjack Tuna, and Mahi Mahi are the fish to catch these days!
