Fishing in Singapore

The small city-state of Singapore has it all. From skyscrapers to calm, green parks, and all the way out to its surrounding waterways, this island punches well above its weight in more ways than one. And what better way to experience the underwater riches than with a Singapore fishing charter?

These fishing guides know these waters like the backs of their hands, and promise to do whatever it takes to give you a good time. Explore inland lakes for famous Peacock Bass and delicious Snakehead, or hit the reefs and go after Coral Trout, Fingermark Bream, Parrotfish, Threadfish, Queenfish, and more.

There’s more prized creatures where they came from, with Golden and Diamond Trevallies offering up a spectacular show, while Barramundi promise to test your line like never before. And with a range of Snappers and Groupers at your disposal, including the legendary Queensland Groper, you know that the fishing is guaranteed to be red hot.

Singapore is so small and the prized waters are so close to shore that you can head out with a fishing charter from as little as a couple of hours up to a full day. Experienced anglers love the endless battles that come with spending 8 hours on the water, while shorter trips may be better suited to beginners. At the end of the day, there’s definitely something for you.

Rules & Regulations

There’s no need for any kind of license when casting a line in Singapore, so that’s even one less thing to worry about. If fishing on foot, however, you should be aware that you can only cast a line from “designated fishing areas.” But all Singapore fishing charters will make sure you stick to the rules.

Singapore Fishing Seasons

January

January is right in the middle of Singapore’s monsoon season. This means rain—and a lot of it. Most charters are not fishing the regional waters but you can still find great night fishing trips in the Southern Islands.

February

The whole country is getting excited about Chinese New Year. If you can tear a charter guide away from their friends and family, expect lots of Snappers and Groupers, and you may get a Mackerel, too.

March

March means one thing in Singapore—the beginning of spring. The northeast monsoon season is over, so expect consistently warm temperatures matched with red hot fishing. Look for Mackerel, Grouper, Snappers, and more.

April
The fishing is on top form, with Mackerel, Barracuda, Grouper, Parrotfish, Coral Trout and many more on the cards over reefs and wrecks. Giant Trevally, Queenfish, and Barramundi also brighten up the day.
May
The excellent fishing continues: show off your skills at the Raffles Marina Boat Fishing Competition. This is one of the best times of the year to catch Barramundi, so get your fill before summer.
June
As always, the weather is hot in Singapore. Don’t let that put you off though, as Golden Snapper and Barramundi are being caught by the dozen. Have your catch cooked at a floating restaurant and enjoy your time by the cooling water.
July
Expect a diverse bite around the Southern Islands at this time of year. Coral Trout, Groupers, Snappers, Sweetlips, Perch, Bream, Parrotfish, and Trevallies are all on the chew. Can’t decide what to target? We don’t blame you!
August
If you’re looking to add a new fish to your list of species, head to the Southern Islands for Spanish Flag Snapper. This is also a good time of year for Parrotfish. On land, there may be a haze from Indonesian bushfires.
September
Just in case there wasn’t already enough variety for you, Cobia’s in town come September. These big fish can put up a good fight—and even better eating. This is also peak season for big Parrotfish.
October
September’s excellent fishing continues, with Spanish Flag Snappers, Bream, Parrotfish and Golden Snapper all featuring on the to-catch list. Head out in the evening to avoid the extreme heat.
November
Make the most of the excellent bottom fishing before monsoon season sets in. This is prime time for Grouper fishing around the Southern Islands, so hit the waters that one last time.
December
Monsoon season starts up, bringing with it strong northern winds. If this doesn’t stop you heading out, expect to find Spanish Flag Snappers and Coral Trout. Sagais (Trevally) are also biting well.
