Fishing in Sayulita

Sayulita fishing is all about reeling in trophy fish. With easy access to the productive Pacific and fantastic weather year-round, success is all but guaranteed. If you’re looking for a quieter vacation alternative to Puerto Vallarta, with fishing that’s just as good, Sayulita is the place for you.

It’s no wonder Sayulita is a saltwater angling hotspot. Staying inshore can be just as exciting as going offshore and you’ll hook into massive Roosterfish, Jacks, and Trevally. For an extra challenge, try hooking them on a fly!

If it’s a challenge and a trophy you’re after, head out towards the Tres Marias Islands. This spot is world-famous for record-breaking Yellowfin Tuna, Black Marlin, and giant Cubera Snapper.

If you’ve only got a few hours to spare, hop on a Mexican panga, heading out of Sayulita Beach. These open boats are a great way to take in the beautiful surroundings and are plenty effective in both inshore and nearshore waters. To get into really deep waters, you’ll want to dedicate at least eight hours to your trip.

There’s no better way to get out there than with a local guide. There’s no marina in Sayulita, however, so you’ll need to launch out of nearby Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta if you want fish aboard a fully equipped sportfishing vessel.

Rules & Regulations

If you're heading out with a charter captain, they'll provide fishing licenses for everyone on board. If you’re on your own, you'll need to pick up fishing licenses for around US$10 per person. Just remember, everyone on board needs to have a license, whether they’re casting a line or not.
