Fishing in Tangolunda

Tangolunda Bay in Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico, offers an exceptional saltwater fishing experience in the heart of Mexico's breathtaking Pacific coast. Known for its rich marine biodiversity and proximity to deep waters, this destination provides anglers with remarkable opportunities year-round. The bay is particularly famous for its abundant populations of Pacific sailfish, with action often starting just a mile offshore, where double-digit hookups per day occur during peak seasons. Common dolphinfish (mahi-mahi) and Pacific bonito provide consistent action closer to shore, while the legendary Atlantic blue marlin patrols deeper offshore grounds.

Anglers can access these fertile fishing grounds through various methods. Shore fishing along Tangolunda's rocky outcrops and resort-adjacent structures yields surprises during dawn and dusk sessions. Chartered fishing excursions, however, unlock the bay's full potential, with experienced local captains navigating to productive reefs, drop-offs, and bluewater hotspots. Many charters combine fishing with wildlife viewing, where encounters with dolphins, sea turtles, and manta rays complement the angling adventure. The warm tropical waters and stunning coastal scenery—featuring secluded coves and pristine beaches—create an unforgettable backdrop for both novice and seasoned anglers seeking trophy catches in Mexico's unspoiled southern paradise.

What anglers said about fishing in Tangolunda

Any day fishing is a good day and even better when you’re catching! Nothing of size on our trip but enough action to get the excitement up! Saw sailfish on the top water but nothing biting. The conditions were good but it was exceedingly hot. Catch was as expected for a short near-shore excursion. Looking forward to coming back during the rainy season to go after big Blues!
