Playa Del Carmen Fishing Seasons
January
Although this is the coolest month of the year, temperatures are in the mid-70s, making this peak tourist season! Book well in advance to secure your hotel, as well as your charter. The reefs are especially productive.
February
February in Playa del Carmen is very dry and not too hot. Make the most of the beautiful weather by jigging for Amberjack or trolling for pelagics. Wahoo and Tuna are biting hard during this month!
March
March is when the fishing starts to heat up more than ever in the Riviera Maya. This is the beginning of peak season for Sailfish, and you can usually get a discount on a hotel, too!
April
The low season for tourism is the high season for fishing. Take part in the Riviera Maya Catch and Release Fishing Challenge during this month. Want to keep some tasty fish? Mahi Mahi fishing is especially excellent!
May
Rumour has it that the first week in May is 'Grand Slam Week' in the Riviera Maya. With White Marlin joining Blue Marlin and Sailfish in these waters, catching three different billfish is a real possibility.
June
While June can be hot and humid in Playa del Carmen, the fishing makes up for the weather. All the big pelagics are out and about, so come cast your line and see what's biting!
July
White Marlin fishing starts to slow down, but Blue Marlin and Sailfish are still biting like crazy. Catch and release is the most popular and responsible way of keeping this fishery jam-packed for generations.
August
This may be peak hurricane season, but August is still one of the best times of year to catch a Blue Marlin or Sailfish in Playa del Carmen. Mahi Mahi and Wahoo complete the picture.
September
September sees some of the highest rainfall of the year in Playa del Carmen. But the beaches are relatively quiet, making shore fishing a possibility. Offshore fishing is as good as ever.
October
With the bulk of the Billfishing having come to an end, sport fishing in Playa del Carmen slows down slightly in October. It's just in time for the high tourist season to pick up, with cruise ships arriving and hotel rates rising.
November
The end of the rainy season, November in Playa del Carmen is busy. Offshore, Amberjack fishing picks up, and although Blue Marlin and Sailfish are not caught in the numbers they were in the summer, they can still be found.
December
December is peak tourist season in the Riviera Maya. You'll be hard pressed to find a hotel deal at this time of year! Winter fishing continues in the same style as November, with a good range of pelagics and Amberjack.
