Fishing in Bradenton

If you’re on an angling adventure on the west coast of Florida, you shouldn’t skip Bradenton. And if you hit these prolific waters on one of Bradenton fishing charters, you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store. To find your trophy catch, take your pick between Manatee River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the vast expanse of the Gulf of Mexico.

Did we mention that Bradenton has quick access to three major bays of Florida? This means superb fishing wherever you go. Schools of Snook, Redfish, and Trout lurk in shallow waters, and let’s not forget about the amazing Tarpon action in Tampa Bay. In the deeper areas, you could land Sheepshead, Black Drum, and Jack Crevalle.

Gag Grouper, King Mackerel, Triggerfish, Hogfish, and a variety of Snapper are at your disposal in the offshore waters. If you’re looking for the ultimate test of your angling skills, once you make it past the 60-mile mark, you can hope to get Amberjack, Sailfish, Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi. Finally, on the gorgeous Manatee River, you can hook Bass, Bluegill, Catfish, and Gar.

With such a variety of waterways, you can find just about any charter trip under the sun. Maybe you’re here to land the Tarpon of your life, maybe you’re relaxing with your best fishing buddies, and maybe you’re teaching your little ones how to fish. Whatever your plan is, there will be a guide out there that can make it happen.

Bradenton sports gorgeous beaches and take-your-breath-away fishing that is open year-round. It’s truly a combo you shouldn’t miss out on!

Rules & Regulations

Solo anglers in Bradenton should have an appropriate fishing license before they head out and they should be familiar with local regulations and daily limits. If you decide to go with one of the Bradenton fishing charters, all the licenses are provided and your captain will let you know all the rules.

Bradenton Fishing Seasons

January
Inshore, you can get Reds and Black Drum. The offshore waters offer some Sailfish, but you need to travel far. Lakes and rivers offer fine fishing and are not crowded.
February
You can expect some Reds and Black Drum, as well as good Trout in Tampa Bay. Out there, there are some Wahoos, but really far. If the weather serves you, the freshwater bite is solid.
March
The action is slowly picking up, with Redish, Snook, and other inshore fellas biting. You can get some Mackerel around reefs, but Amberjack you can always count on. They come in impressive sizes, too!
April
It’s time for the Wahoo spring run, so offshore waters will be a treasure trove. You can also get some Trout inshore, as well as Flounder, and the always reliable Redfish. Mahi Mahi are also starting to make an appearance.
May
It’s official, Mahi Mahi are back in town! They are biting offshore, so if you’re ready for some top-notch action, this is THE time to head out. Tarpon are out there in solid numbers, and Amberjack lurk around the seafloor, ready to pounce your hook.
June
While freshwater fishing is slowing down, offshore festivities are just starting. Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, Snapper, and Grouper are all there for the taking. Fishing in the bays could yield excellent Redfish, Snook, Jack Crevalle, and so much more.
July
The hottest month of the year is here, and so are Amberjack, Snapper, Grouper, and Triggerfish around the reef bottoms. You can also snatch Mahi Mahi, some odd Wahoo, Kings, and more. Blackfin Tuna are roaming the bluewater, if they tickle your fancy.
August
It’s all about the Silver King in Tampa Bay! There, Tarpon are biting ferociously, and you can go after a variety of inshore superstars as well. In the offshore universe, Wahoo, King, Spanish Mackerel, Amberjack, Cobia, and Snapper reign supreme.
September
In September, head to the Bradenton rivers, because the freshwater action is too good to miss. Crappie, Bass, Catfish, and Bream are the most common catches. Offshore, you can get Wahoo, Amberjack, and of course, King Mackerel.
October
It’s Wahoo time again! They’re passing by in all shapes and sizes and both local and tourist anglers will have a blast reeling them in. Inshore, Reds and Black Drum are hungry and waiting. You should also check out lakes and rivers for some Bass.
November
Inshore action is all about Drum, whether it’s Red or Black. The peak season is over, but that only means fewer people on rivers and lakes that are still full of fish. Out there, you could snatch a wide array of bottom dwellers.
December
This is the beauty of Florida winter – even now, the fishing is on fire! In the freshwater, you can get Bream, Bass, Flounder, and Sheepshead. Offshore, you can fish for Grouper, Snapper, and Amberjack.
