Fishing in Carrabelle

Nestled along Florida's Forgotten Coast, Carrabelle offers anglers a pristine fishing paradise with year-round opportunities to reel in an impressive variety of species. This charming coastal town serves as the perfect gateway to both inshore and offshore adventures, making Carrabelle fishing charters a sought-after experience for fishing enthusiasts of all skill levels.

Carrabelle's diverse fishing grounds include the productive Carrabelle River, where freshwater meets salt, creating ideal conditions for largemouth bass, redfish, mullet, bluegill, and flounder. The river's tidal creeks, mudflats, and oyster bars provide excellent inshore fishing opportunities, particularly for redfish and spotted sea trout.

Venture beyond the river's last bend, and you'll discover why Carrabelle is renowned for its exceptional offshore fishing. The area boasts numerous reefs and wrecks that attract prized catches including amberjack, king mackerel, common dolphinfish, wahoo, tarpon, cobia, bonito, and gag grouper. Fishing here remains productive throughout the year, with peak season spanning from early spring to late summer.

For those seeking specific species, Carrabelle offers seasonal abundance: amberjack and bonito are plentiful from April to October, while common dolphinfish, king mackerel, and sailfish arrive around May and remain through late summer. Spanish mackerel can be targeted from March to May, with tarpon becoming particularly active in July's warmer waters.

Whether you're wade fishing off nearby St. George Island, exploring the shallow waters via kayak, or heading into the deeper Gulf waters aboard a charter boat, Carrabelle provides the perfect blend of accessibility and adventure. With its picturesque setting and rich fishing grounds, Carrabelle stands as one of Florida's most rewarding fishing destinations for anglers seeking both quality and variety in their catch.

Bring a lightweight jacket and pick a good captain. Season isn’t open to many types of fish. We had to throw many back that was out of season. Mangroves we’re plentiful. Couple red grouper.

Captain Tim and his first mate(son) were very personable and easy to talk to. For our first time saltwater fishing, they knew where to take us to keep the fish biting! Highlight of the trip were the two sharks the kids caught, and the third I almost got in the boat…it was a monster, I’m sure of it!! Well done fellas, we will be talking about this for years to come!
