Fishing in Hernando Beach

Here’s a town that lives and breaths fishing! A Hernando Beach fishing trip is bound to take your breath away. As one of the best-kept secrets in Florida, this little fishing town is a must-visit for any angler looking to get away from the crowds. With its numerous bays full of fish, as well as the waters of the Gulf of Mexico kissing its shore, you’ll find everything at your fingertips.

These are some of the richest waters around, and there’s a variety of fish species that call them home. Closer to shore, you’ll find Redfish, Snook, Trout, Flounder, Snapper, and Mackerel all competing for your bait. Head a bit further offshore, and there’s Red Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack, Mahi Mahi, Marlin, Tuna, and a lot more to keep you busy.

What’s the best trip for you? Well, if you’re looking to take your family out and make some memories, a half day inshore trip will do the trick. If you’re a more serious angler who wants to break some records or fill your bags, consider booking a full day trip. And there’s always the option of an extended full day trip if you'd like to search the Gulf's deep waters for some real sea monsters.

The town is literally made up of docks! This makes it really easy to find a fishing charter to take you out. Just head on down to the water and you’ll see them dotted all along, waiting for you to hop aboard!

Rules & Regulations

If you’re heading out on a fishing charter, your fishing license will be covered by the captain. But if you want to fish on your own, make sure you buy a Florida fishing license. Some species are heavily regulated, so heading out with a reputable captain is the best way to make sure you’re fishing within the law.

Hernando Beach Fishing Seasons

January

Start the year off by heading out to one of the numerous bays out of Hernando Beach. You’ll get to target some prized Redfish and Speckled Trout at this time of year.

February

Fishing for Redfish and Trout only gets better, but you’ll find that February is a good time to target species like Flounder, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and Snook as well.

March

As spring slowly approaches, the weather starts to get hotter, and so does the fishing! Speckled Trout and Redfish are great targets, with Cobia coming close to shore as well.

April

In April, you’ll find that Snook and Cobia are biting hot, as well as Redfish and Speckled Trout. Some early Tarpon might make an appearance, so be on the lookout.

May

Tarpon fishing starts heating up, and everyone wants a piece! Head out a bit further offshore to the reefs for your chance to land some Snapper, Grouper, and Amberjack.

June

There’s no better time to head offshore and target Gag Grouper and Red Snapper. If you’re looking to stay closer to shore, now’s the time to hook that record-breaking Tarpon.

July

The inshore waters are brimming with Tarpon, Snook, and Redfish. Head offshore if you’re looking for big game species like Marlin, Mahi Mahi, and Tuna.

August

The Redfish bite is at its peak now, and the last of the Tarpon will give you a great fight as well. Offshore, it’s still a great time to target those bottom dwellers and pelagics.

September

As temperatures slowly start to drop, you’ll find that September is a great time to go after Snook, Cobia, Redfish, Trout, and other inshore species.

October

With fall in full swing, you’ll find that inshore fishing in Hernando Beach doesn’t slow down. Head out in search of prized Redfish, Trout, and Sheepshead.

November

This is a great time of the year to stay closer to shore and spend your time reeling in those prized species. Redfish, Trout, and Sheepshead are all biting.

December

Winter is coming, and the holiday season is upon us. What better way to end the year than by reeling in some of Florida’s prized inshore species. Go after Redfish, Trout, and Sheepshead for a guaranteed great time!
