The most popular fish species you can target are King Mackerel (Kingfish), Mangrove Snapper, and Cobia. Top fishing techniques include Bottom Fishing, Light Tackle, and Heavy Tackle. Nearshore fishing, wreck fishing, and inshore fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

Located on Florida’s “Forgotten Coast,” Mexico Beach feels like you’re miles away from anywhere. However, that means that you’ll have access to the Panhandle’s incredible fishing grounds without the crowds! Take advantage of it aboard one of the numerous Mexico Beach fishing charters and get your fish on.

Head southeast and St. Joseph Bay is your nearest spot for some inshore fishing. However, you’re not too far from the network of bays that surround Panama City, either. Wherever you go, you’ll have your pick of clear water shallows or grassy flats where prized fish like Redfish, Spotted Seatrout, Flounder, Sheepshead, Jack Crevalle, Tarpon, and even scallops live.

If reef fishing sounds more appealing, then you’re in luck. Mexico Beach offers up some of the best reef fishing in the Panhandle, with 150 man-made reefs just a stone’s throw from shore. Go after some of the biggest Snappers this side of the Mississippi, along with Groupers, Amberjack, Cobia, Mackerel, Barracuda, and more.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Deep sea anglers will relish the chance to test their skills and strength against some true trophy fish. Over 45 miles out, you’ll come into contact with Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Sailfish, and even Marlin.

Whether you’ve just got a couple of hours to spare or want to spend a few days on the water, there’s something for you here. You can fish inshore for as little or as long as you want, while offshore trips will require at least 10 hours on the water. Nearshore trips usually last at least 6 hours.

Rules & Regulations

Mexico Beach fishing charters come with fishing licenses provided for all on board, so you’ve got one less thing to worry about. Your professional guide will also be in-the-know concerning all bag and size limits, so you can rest assured that you’ll be fishing within the law.

January

Inshore fishing can be great at the start of the year, so be on the lookout for Redfish and Speckled Trout in the Mexico Beach Canal or head to the backwaters of St. Joseph Bay to get your fill.

February

Winter fishing continues, with Sheepshead, Redfish, and Speckled Trout biting more than any other species inshore. With the chance of a nip in the air, you'll be glad to have some exciting angling action!

March

By March, you may catch some early Spanish Mackerel or Cobia if you drop a line in the right place narashore. Redfish and Speckled Trout are moving out of the canals and backwater, so head to the more open spots.

April

Mexico Beach is known for its Cobia run at the start of the month. They come followed by scores of King and Spanish Mackerel, Pompano, Ladyfish, and many more, for a great warmup for the big game season.

May

The flats of St. Joe Bay are teeming with Redfish and Speckled Trout, not to mention all the other species who have arrived for summer. But this is all about offshore fishing, where Sailfish and Mahi Mahi enter the fray.

June

There's rod-bending action everywhere! Tripletail and Sharks will keep you busy inshore, before Tarpon start to arrive. Snappers and Groupers fill up the reefs, so head nearshore for some action, too.

July

Feeling ambitious? Sign up for the Mexico Beach Marina's Offshore Classic and land yourself some Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, and a cash prize. Although, Tarpon fishing in St. Joe Bay is irresistable too!

August

You’ll be spoiled for choice in August. Nearly every fish you can think of is biting inshore, while the reefs are teeming with bottom fish. The deep sea promises Tuna, Sailfish, Wahoo, and more, so try it all!

September

Autumn is on its way, but the weather in Mexico Beach – and the fishing – is still hot! Mahi Mahi, Tuna, and Wahoo will keep you busy in the Gulf, while, in the flats, you can catch Flounder, Redfish, Scallops, and more.

October

There’s still plenty of time to land a big game trophy before the end of the year, with Tuna, Sailfish, King Mackerel, and Wahoo still going strong in the deep. Bull Reds return to the fore inshore, so don't miss out on that.

November

As the peak season for big game fishing comes to a close, turn your attention to the shallow waters of St. Joe Bay and the surrounding area. Redfish, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and much more are waiting.

December

The holidays are an excellent time to head out on the water, with plenty of bottom fish biting on the nearshore reefs and a host of game fish swarming the flats inshore. Come and land yourself a Christmas present!

Had a great time with captain Dan. It wasnโ€™t the easiest day for him because of the sharks and many trigger fish but we caught our limit of red snapper plus the biggest mangrove snapper Iโ€™ve seen. Thanks for the good time Captain Dan!!!

Traveled up and down Crooked island catching Spanish Mackerel and fishing some backwater stream that dumped into the gulf for trout and reds. A great day out, truly enjoyed the trip.

A perfect day fishing inshore for Spanish Mackerel and caught our limit. Also a classic story of the Big one that got away. My son Wes had about a 45 minute battle with a Huge Jack Crevalle, got it up to the boat and the line snapped๐Ÿ˜”. We had a great time and will be back to do it again.

It was a great day! The only pitfall was that the fish werenโ€™t in season yet, as we were a bit too early. Captain Daniel is very good and patient with young fisherman! We made some good memories! All smiles here!
