Top Fishing Charters in Ponce Inlet

One of the best things about Florida’s “Fun Coast” is the diverse angling on offer – and Ponce Inlet fishing charters provide just that. Nestled between Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach, Ponce Inlet provides a welcome refuge from the crowds, without sacrificing incredible bluewater and backcountry opportunities.

Who says an action-packed day is reserved for offshore trips? An inshore adventure in Ponce Inlet will see you exploring the Halifax River and Ponce de Leon Inlet for Redfish, Trout, Snook, and big Jacks. Anglers looking for a shallow-water trophy should venture south into the Indian River Lagoon. Here, Bull Redfish and Gator Trout reign supreme.

Perhaps what Ponce Inlet fishing is best known for is its productive reefs. Head about 10 miles out for incredible bottom fishing and reel in Snapper, Grouper, Cobia, and Amberjack. Like most places in the area, a deep sea adventure requires a little more travel time, but if you’re after big pelagic species, it’s worth it. You’ll hook into Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Blackfin Tuna – to name a few!

A half day trip does the trick if you’re looking to get your hands on some inshore specimens. If you’re venturing into the reefs or deeper offshore, the further you go – the better. Opt for a full day trip to get the most out of the action.

There are several marinas in Ponce Inlet. The majority face the Halifax River and provide easy access to inland fisheries. For nearshore reef fishing and offshore adventures, head south to a marina closer to the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse.

Rules & Regulations

There’s no need to worry about your fishing license, as the captain will cover everyone on board. To ensure you’re fishing within the law and respecting bagging and size limits, it’s best to head out with an experienced guide.

January

The turn of the year is a great time to head out in search of Flounder, Redfish, Trout, Black Drum, and Sheepshead. The inshore waters are teeming with fish and the weather is mild.

February

The inshore action is still red hot. The Redfish and Trout bite is great, followed closely by Black Drum and Flounder. Weather permiting, head into the reefs and see what bottom fish you can get your hands on!

March

The first Snook appear in the inshore waterways and Sheepshead hits peak season. Trout put up a great fight and you can also hook into delicious Mangrove Snapper.

April

Hit the Gulf Stream mid-month for the annual Mahi Mahi migration. The inshore waterways are teeming with Trout, Jack Crevalle, Bluefish and Redfish. Up for a battle? Go after some Sharks!

May

Head to the reefs for fantastic bottom fishing. There's no telling what you'll catch but Lane Snapper is garunteed. It's also a great time to head further offshore for pelagic trophies including Sailfish, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi.

June

Offshore fishing for Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish continues to stay hot. Barracuda, Snapper, and Amberjack take residence in the reefs, providing seriously rod-bending action.

July

June's hot bite pours over into July. It's likely Red Snapper season too, and the reefs and offshore fisheries continue to deliver. Inshore, you can hook into plenty of Spotted Seatrout.

August

This is the time for some world-class Tarpon fishing inshore! Bycatches include Jack Crevalle and Snook mid-month. In the reefs you'll hook into Snapper, Grouper, and Barracuda.

September

Offshore, trolling for Kings and Cobia is productive this time of the year. You can also hook into Bonito, as well as a nice selection of Snapper. Snook season opens up again and it's on fire!

October

Big pushes of Atlantic mullet lure Bull Redfish inland. If you're looking for a trophy fish, and a nice bicep workout, the inshore waterways are the place to be.

November

Inshore fishing for Black Drum, Redfish, and Sheepshead is exciting. In the reefs, bottom-feeding Snapper and Grouper give you a run for your money.

December

What a great end to the year! Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo are on the run offshore. Closer to shore, you can hook into King Mackerel, Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead and the last of the Snook.

Bring water and a light lunch if it's an all-day trip. Bring binoculars to view sea animals while out on the ocean. Bring gloves for holding on the the pole and fish!

Only disappointment was that Red Snapper was out of season. And everyone on the boat was catching them. But could not keep.

Get there early to pick your spot on the boat. Call ahead to find out what fish are in season. We caught a ton of beautiful red snapper and a huge grouper but they were both out of season. Take plenty of sunscreen.

This crew can accommodate any situation that is presented to them. They were open to our requests, but what was caught had to be in season and of legal size in order to be kept. So the experience is up to the request of the party as long as they are willing to handle the limit or season regulations.

Check the docks and see what is running. Fish for that. Buy the deep water charter. You won't regret it.

Our group had a great time and caught some nice fish. Our only concern was a few condescending comments from crew about our fishing skills, even jumping in and taking our rods when fish on and even negative comments whether we were going to fish or not when taking a break. Never given an opportunity to troll also. Still had a great time and would do it again.

We had a great day fishing and were reminded why its called fishing not catching. We did a full day trip, in pretty rough waters. The captain and crew were amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable you can tell they truly wanted everyone to have a great trip and catch great fish. We caught about 30 between my husband and I but none were keepers on our end but thats just how it is sometimes. We still had a good time!

Trip was very good crew was amazing and we tipped 💲💲very well ! We believe the trip would have been much better if young kids were NOT 🔴on the trip and a little less crowded! Not the crews fault but there were a lot of lines in the water on our side that were getting tangled causing less of a chance to catch fish 🐠 but for something to do we would go again. Thank you

Captain Ed was very nice and hit several spots throughout the day. The boat is very comfortable and cut through the waves very well. Hunter worked very hard all day. The 2 heat reels make it very easy to bring fish up compared to traditional reels.
