If you're embarking on a Sanford fishing adventure, there's one place where you'll definitely be casting your line: Lake Monroe! This body of water is part of the mighty St. Johns River system, and Sanford lies right along its southern shore. This means that you'll find plenty of incredible angling options, as well as first-class fish species, right on your doorstep.

 

Sanford is located at St. Johns River's middle section, where it flows into Lake Monroe. These waters are home to a variety of world-famous fish, but there's one species in particular that most charter guides focus their attention on: Largemouth Bass. This hard-fighting fish can be found throughout the river's freshwater fishing grounds, but is extremely plentiful in Lake Monroe. You'll also find 'Lunkers' on offer here, so prepare for some serious rod-bending action. 

 

Lake Monroe and its surrounding waters are also home to that family favorite, Crappie. This species is fun to catch, especially for newer anglers and little ones, and is also extremely tasty. For the more experienced among you, there's plenty of excitement to be had in targeting Crappie using light tackle – before frying this succulent Panfish up into a tasty meal, of course!

 

Lake Monroe is generally considered to be the point where the St. Johns River becomes 'navigable, so you'll find plenty of charters dotted all along Sanford's shoreline. Depending on what you want to get out of your adventure, you can opt for a four-, six-, or eight-hour trip. Shorter trips are perfect for newbies and young anglers, whereas longer trips will give you the time to explore a variety of waters and chase your target fish.
