Top Fishing Charters in Sebastian

Just a sleepy seaside town? The angling opportunities on offer here beg to differ! Fishing charters in Sebastian, Florida are ready to take you on an adventure around the area’s many exciting waterways. With the chance to explore lagoons, rivers, reefs, wrecks, and the awe-inspiring Atlantic, chances are you’ll find a real gem biting at the end of your line. There’s a reason this area is called the Treasure Coast, after all!

The Indian River and Sebastian Inlet State Park lie just east of the city, and they’re an inshore angler’s dream. The river’s waters are home to huge “Gator” Trout, Bull Redfish, Tarpon, and Snook. You’ll find these fish inhabiting the inlet, too, as well as tasty Flounder. A half day trip is the perfect introduction to Florida fishing, and a full day trip will suit experienced anglers. Want to battle monster Snook? Head to the inlet under the cover of darkness, when this species comes out to play!

Further ashore, the bluewaters of the Atlantic await. The Gulf Stream lies 40 miles from Sebastian’s shoreline, and this big game playground is full of Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Wahoo, and Tuna. If you want tasty table fare, a nearshore trip will see you casting a line around reefs and wrecks for Snapper, Grouper, Triggerfish, Cobia, and King Mackerel. A full day trip will allow you to make the most of these waters, with some captains offering extended day trips for seasoned anglers.

You’ll find a variety of charters dotted all along Sebastian’s eastern shoreline and the Sebastian Inlet State Park dock. With fishing grounds and trips suited to every type of saltwater angler, hop aboard, and discover the treasures that these waters hold!

Rules & Regulations

Fish alongside a charter captain, and your license will be covered for you. Some species have strict bag and size limits, and you’ll be informed of these regulations when you hop aboard your charter.

January

If you're looking for some proper Southern-style fun, kick off the year with the Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival. Savour frog legs, gator tail, fried shrimp, and more in this fun family day out.

February

You've got a lot to choose from in February. Head out past the inlet for Grouper, Snapper, King Mackerel, Wahoo, and Sailfish. Otherwise, stay in the shallows for Mangrove Snapper, Pompano, Snook, and Flounder.

March

The Annual Grant Seafood Festival has been held every March for over half a century. The event draws over 40,000 visitors to fill up on delicious fried shrimp, crab cakes, conch fritters, and more.

April

The action really heats up in April. Inshore, Redfish, and Pompano are joined by the first big Tarpon. Offshore, Yellowfin Tuna and Mahi Mahi are tearing up the topwaters, making for great fun and even better eating!

May

The Sebastian Lionfish Fest takes place every May, raising awareness about this invasive species with a tournament, cook-off, and plenty of educational activities for the kids.

June

The Sebastian Blue Water Open is the most important event in every local angler's diary. Head offshore for some proper bluewater sportfishing in this exciting event. The stakes are high and the fish are huge!

July

Celebrate the fourth of July with a traditional parade and lots of patriotic fun. There's an all-day party in the park, and a fireworks display to paint the sky with red, white, and blue.

August

Scorching temperatures and high humidity may make fishing difficult in the day, but not at night! Enjoy incredible hookups of monster Snook after dark. This is a Sebastian specialty and not one to miss!

September

September is a great time to head offshore, with a variety of species on the cards. Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, and King Mackerel can reliably be caught this time of year, so get out there!

October

As fall draws in the Sailfish action just gets hotter and hotter. If you don't fancy going offshore, you can find plenty of big Flounder and Snook inshore, as well as the last big numbers of Redfish.

November

Can't bear eating another turkey? Bag yourself some delicious Flounder or Grouper instead! If you fancy something bigger, there are huge Wahoo offshore, just begging for a teaser to chase.

December

Spend the holiday season in the sun, with average highs of 70 degrees and perfect flats fishing weather. Head on out for your chance to catch enough Trout and Flounder to see you through until spring!

Listen to the Captain, stay alert and have fun. It’s important to pick a Captain that has great reviews, and who has experience. We did and it paid off!

The weather was still warm enough in December to enjoy a day of fishing. Taking dramamine the night before and the morning of is highly recommended. Also as the floor in the boat got wet as we pulled in fish and this made it slippery and would suggest tennis shoes or some kind of shoes with traction. We had a great day!

Trevor was great! The equipment is top notch and he's right on making sure you are set up with bait and a fresh leader when you get snagged or bite off. He really made the trip fun and informative. We caught jacks, redfish, snook, mangrove snapper, ladyfish, and catfish. We will definitely be back on the boat for some awesome inshore haunts!

We had a great time with Captain Jay and Robbie. Both are very knowledgeable and helpful. Robbie was very patient with my little guy helping him catch some fish. We weren't getting much bites at first so Captain Jay kept moving to different spots to ensure we got some catches. We have chartered with Captain Jay twice and both were great experiences.

First of all...Thank you Captain Jay and First Mate Robbie!!! Mike, John, and myself had a great day! First time charter for the 3 of us and it was everything we could have expected. Very professional and educational. We caught keepers, lost keepers, gave back non-legal sized fish and basically covered all aspects of a great day of fishing. I can't say enough good things about Captain Jay and his First Mate. We will definitely charter again with Captain Jay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 6h fishing trip with Captain Jay and first mate Robby. They gave us a warm welcome on board going over the important safety features. The crew is very knowledgeable about all things fishing, super child friendly and family oriented. We returned home with some very tasty king fish and snappers plus recipe recommendations. It doesn’t get any better.
