Ocean Addict Hawaii llc and To The Max Charters received great reviews from families who booked fishing trips in Haleiwa.

The most popular fish species you can target are Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Yellowfin Tuna, and Wahoo. Top fishing techniques include Trolling, Deep Sea Fishing, and Heavy Tackle. Offshore fishing, nearshore fishing, and reef fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

If you’re looking for a fishing getaway while in Honolulu, Haleiwa is the perfect place for you. Located on the north shore of the island of O’ahu, you’ll have access to many productive fishing spots, and there are plenty of Haleiwa fishing charters waiting to take you out year-round.

You won’t need to go more than a few miles offshore before getting into the territory of some prized deep sea species. Many local captains specialize in targeting the likes of Blue and Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Spearfish, and Wahoo. If you’re more in the mood for a relaxing experience, local reef-dwellers such as Triggerfish, Jobfish, Snapper, and Hawaiian Grouper will be perfect targets.

When it comes to choosing the ideal trip for your group, it all depends on your goals for the day. Hitting the nearby reefs is a great choice for groups with kids since the action is near-constant, and half day trips can prove quite productive. However, if you’re after the trophy catch of your dreams and plan of venturing out to the deep blue, you should set aside a full day to give yourself the best odds.

There are plenty of top-of-the-line sportfishing vessels waiting to take you out of Haleiwa’s harbor. Choose from a range of trips to suit your needs, and set off on an incredible fishing adventure.

Rules & Regulations

All anglers fishing aboard a chartered boat have their daily licenses covered by the boat’s captain. The captain will also inform you about the size and bag limits for the species you’re targeting. Make sure to get informed on open season dates since they are subject to change.

January

The year’s just starting but the action here never even stopped! Challenge yourself to land a feisty Spearfish using light tackle or go after some monster Bigeye Tuna offshore. There are many other targets as well – from Snapper to Marlin!

February

Fishing for Marlin and other big game fish offshore is definitely a good idea in February. On top of that, you could try the shallow waters for smaller reef fish. The weather is quite enjoyable, with winter temperatures hovering around 70°F.

March

You can reliably target Mahi Mahi, Spearfish, Bigeye Tuna, and Striped Marlin in March. With such an impressive assortment of offshore targets, few anglers can resist venturing off to the blue waters to test their luck.

April

During spring, numerous offshore species are easier to come across, including Wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna. In April, Mahi Mahi enter their first peak season, and Trevally can be found closer to the coast.

May

May is the perfect time to catch some Marlin, Wahoo, and Tuna. The reef bite is also strong if you’d like to stay closer to the shore. Be sure to check out the Lei Day Celebration while you’re taking a break from fishing.

June

June is peak season for Wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna, making offshore charters targeting these deep sea prizes a popular choice among visiting anglers. Alternatively, trying for Trevally from the shore isn’t a bad idea, either.

July

The list of targets is impressive in July. Tuna, Marlin, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi are all plentiful during this warm month. Albacore Tuna can be caught at the end of the month, while the reefs are still going strong, and even fishing from the shore gives good results.

August

Whether you’re looking to fish nearshore or in the deep sea, August’s high temperatures will offer you the perfect conditions, regardless. Offshore Marlin trips are great for trophy hunters while nearshore excursions have a wide array of targets.

September

This time of year is one of the last chances to catch some Trevally (Papio and Ulua). Apart from fishing, this is a great opportunity to take part in The Aloha Festival, a celebration that showcases Hawaii’s unique traditions.

October

October marks Mahi Mahi’s second peak season. You can also explore the waters for Skipjack and Yellowfin Tuna, or try to catch something from the reefs. Just take your pick – fishing is good everywhere!

November

The great thing about November in Oahu is that temperatures don’t drop below 70°F. This is a nice opportunity to go offshore fishing for Bigeye Tuna. Alternatively, you could explore waters closer to the shore and land some nice Nannygai.

December

December is the perfect time to catch Striped Marlin, who are entering their peak season. However, be on the lookout for Skipjack Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Blue Marlin, and others, as you never know what’s on the other end of the line.

We had never gone deep sea fishing and that was what we wanted to do. So we went deep and caught a marlin. If we wanted to catch more fish we probably would have fished more inshore but my sons wanted to go deep for the big fish.

If you have never done it before eat some ginger or take a Dramamine the seas are the seas the rough but not crazy. First word advice. If youโ€™re not used to it donโ€™t drink on the boat Iโ€™m talking alcohol that is otherwise have a great time.

The fishing could be slow it could be fast you are indeed taking a risk whenever you go but I beleave you have good chances going on this charter. Prepair for big waves and lots of rocking, it will be very difficult to stand on your own without a firm handhold. Be ready to help when called on beacuse it will happen at a moment's notice.

North Shore fishing is not like mainland fishing and can get a bit rough. Take your Dramamine the night before if you even remotely think you might get sea sick. The upside is there are some mighty big sea creatures in those waters with some really beautiful scenery!!!

It was a great time with Capt. Matt and his first mate, who were kind and accomodating people. Very welcoming and friendly. It was nostalgic for me as a Coastguardsman to go out on a former USCG vessel. We had a double on the lines... and some excitement, but it wasn't even about the fish. Just a wonderful trip.

Captains Matt and Bill were excellent guides and captains, working hard and making the most of some fairly choppy seas. The fish werenโ€™t cooperating but the experience was great! The sunset was spectacular from the boat. We will definitely tour with them again.

My family had a blast on the charter today. The crew was so helpful and made us feel right at home. They were very informative and took the time out to answer all of ours questions. We will definitely be back next year. This charter did not disappoint and I recommend this adventure to anyone who is looking to do some "REAL" hands on fishing!! The fight of the fish is worth a thousand memories

We really appreciated that Matt was available to take us on such short notice. He was so flexible and very knowledgeable. We did a 3 hr fishing charter in the late afternoon and had the added plus of seeing the sunset heading in. The boat is very comfortable and Matt was so friendly. We would definitely do again and he will be highly recommended to our friends visiting also.

Captain Chris and Jordan did a great job and we loved fishing with them. They worked hard getting our poles rigged and finding the fish. We even found schools of Tuna surfacing the water and was fortunate enough to get to catch one. We caught a Uku, Mahi Mahi, and the Blue Fin Tuna. At least 4 other fish got off our lines as we didnโ€™t get them hooked but half of our live bait would be gone so they were biting. There were 6 of us and we all had a fabulous time. Highly recommend.

Captain Matt was a pleasure to spend time on the water. He adapted quickly and knew the ocean like a pro. Definitely going back next visit to Oahu. For the price and intimate experience, way better than those overcrowded tour boats out there.

Overall great experience, Matt really goes out of his way to maximize your chance of catching fish. I would say the real climax of the trip was when we both hooked onto a mahi and were in a mad rush to reel them in as we could see the sharks chasing after them.

I was going to put 3 or 4 stars for overall experience due to being sea sick the entire time but that's not their fault. My wife and I were both pretty suck but managed to reel in about 12 fish total with two of them being 140ish pound Yellow fins. A bonus when a mako shark decided he wanted my wife's tuna (no pun intended) and didn't let go until the last second of pulling the fish on the boat. Great experience other then being sick! Only posted a couple pics and an awesome video from that day!

Phenomenal boat, with a great name and an even better captain and mate. We've been out deep sea fishing a dozen times and these guys are some of the best in the business!
