Fishing in Avalon

Between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic lies the stunning resort town of Avalon. Known as the 'chicest' beach in the mid-Atlantic, tourists flock here to get a piece of the action every summer. Don't miss out on the fishing in Avalon. From the Cape May Wetlands, to the surf, to the deep seas, there's something for everyone. So grab your rod and come along!

Types of Fishing

Most captains in Avalon will offer a range of trips, from the shallows to the deep, with some trips tailored to specific species. Whether you're an experienced angler or a novice, there's a trip for you.

Inshore Fishing

A mile out from the mainland, Avalon is on the other side of the Intracoastal Waterway. You'll be on the fish in no time, so trips can last as little as two hours or as long as eight hours. Test the waters for your first time, or push your angling skills to the limit, as you bottom fish for hours to fill the boat with tasty Seabass, Flounder, Trout, and many more.

Nearshore Fishing

Head south and around to Delaware Bay or fish the surf and battle it out with some nearshore beasts. Head to the Atlantic and you'll come across beauties such as Spanish Mackerel, Kingfish, Tautog, Rockfish, and even some monster Sharks. Try bottom fishing by jigging, or even try light trolling and you're in for a productive and exciting day on the water.

Deep Sea Fishing

As little as 30 miles offshore from Avalon, NJ, you can find some prized deep sea fishing spots. While often overlooked for the continental shelf further out, 'the Jackspot' offers equally productive fishing. Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Kingfish inhabit this area during the summer, giving you the chance to do some world-class fishing on an eight-hour charter.

If it's Marlin you're looking for, then a 10-hour or longer charter will take you to their hunting grounds. Along the canyons around 60 miles offshore, all the way to the continental shelf, you'll find Blue and White Marlin, along with some delicious Swordfish. Serious anglers won't want to miss out on the chance to do battle here.

How to Prepare

When traveling long distances, you'll be fishing aboard a luxury sportfishing vessel. These beautiful boats come fitted with plenty of comfortable seating in the cabin, along with a toilet and kitchen. However, smaller boats on inshore trips may be open to the elements. Make sure to wrap up warm in the colder seasons, or bring plenty of sunscreen in summer.

All that's left for you to do is grab your fishing license, bring some food and drinks aboard, and settle in for a productive day out. Book your next trip to come and see for yourself why Avalon is one of the mid-Atlantic's most popular resorts!
