The sheer number of Astoria fishing charters on offer reflects the amount of fishing opportunities in this part of Oregon. Astoria is perhaps most well-known for providing direct access to the Columbia River. This freshwater fishery is beloved for its high numbers of Salmon varieties. Fishing guides generally head to this area in spring, when the first Chinook arrive. They’re joined by Coho and Steelhead in summer, and the fishery remains strong until around October. From May through July, huge Sturgeon enter these waters, and can be caught and released.
The saltwater fishing scene in Astoria is often overshadowed, but it offers up plenty of exciting angling action. Hit the Nehalem and Tillamook Bays, or travel out onto the open waters of the Pacific, and you could encounter Salmon, Lingcod, Halibut, Crab, and Albacore Tuna. Most local guides explore these waters through spring, summer, and fall, but winter can yield surprising catches such as Lingcod and Crab.

All anglers age 12 or above will need a valid Oregon fishing license to cast a line in Astoria. If you’re fishing the Columbia River, you’ll also need a Columbia River Basin Endorsement.
