Fishing in Gold Beach

Gold Beach is the epicenter of freshwater fishing action on Oregon’s southern coast. Once famous for its gold mining opportunities, this small town now draws anglers in search of a different kind of treasure – Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Trout. With easy access to the Rogue River’s best fishing spots and the Pacific Ocean, there’s always something you can catch.

You can target Chinook during their spring run from March–May. It’s also possible to catch them in fall, but only in the permitted area, so it’s best to go on a trip with a local guide. The Coho Salmon season starts mid-September and ends in October.

Ever heard of half-pounders? They are a specialty of the Rogue River – immature, 12–14” Steelhead, who fight very aggressively. The most exciting way of catching them is by fly fishing, so make sure to check if your guide provides the equipment.

The Rogue River has fewer dams than other rivers and a consistent supply of cold water – just what Salmon love. With the right fishing guide, you’ll love spending time on the water in Gold Beach, too.
