Fishing in Wadmalaw Island

Discover the unparalleled inshore fishing opportunities of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, where pristine marshes and winding tidal creeks create an angler's paradise. This serene Lowcountry destination offers exceptional year-round fishing for trophy Red Drum and Spotted Seatrout in its protected waterways. The island's unique network of oyster mounds, grass flats, and drainage ditches provides ideal habitat for these prized species, with sight-fishing opportunities during tide changes that few destinations can match.

Wadmalaw Island's strategic location near the Dawhoo River and Stono River systems gives anglers access to expansive fishing grounds. The area's intricate marsh ecosystem supports thriving populations of Redfish that tail in the shallows during flood tides, while Seatrout congregate in deeper channels as waters recede. Experienced guides leverage local knowledge of tidal patterns to position anglers near productive oyster beds and grass lines where fish feed actively. Beyond the classic inshore targets, these fertile waters also hold Black Drum, Flounder, and Sheepshead.

The Wadmalaw River itself serves as a primary fishery, with nearby access points like the Limehouse boat ramp providing convenient entry to prime fishing areas. Anglers can expect to employ diverse techniques from light-tackle spinning gear to fly rods, using everything from live bait to MirrOlures depending on conditions. With its protected waters offering comfortable fishing regardless of offshore conditions and breathtaking natural scenery at every turn, Wadmalaw Island delivers an authentic Lowcountry angling experience that keeps enthusiasts returning season after season.

Captain Bryan was a great guide! Everyone apart of our group was able to catch a fish and we were able to reel in 3 different kinds of fish! Captain Bryan was always ready to help with out technical issues (tangled lines, help baiting, etc.) The 4 hour AM charter was a great way to kick off an early/beautiful Sunday morning. Coming from someone who doesn't have much fishing background, this was a great experience!

Capt Bryan was a perfect host for our trip. He was really great with my 2 boys, (13) and (10), in helping them and interacting with them. We had a tough day of fishing but tried a few different type of spots trying to tease them out. Highlight was fighting and bringing in a shark. Boys enjoyed the fight. Capt Bryan was really engaging and great sense of humor. Fun day and would do it again!!

Fishing with Captain Bryan is one of the best experience I’ve had using a charter. His knowledge about Low-country fishing is exceptional. He keeps you informed of the the method he has for each species of fish you are targeting. He is NOT a “here reel this fish in” captain. If you are looking for a great Captain, great experience, a lot of knowledge and a ton of laughs Captain Bryan is your man!!
