Fishing in Fort Worth

The Fort Worth fishing scene consists of some of the best lakes in Texas. The city was lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing fishing spots and no matter what direction you take, you'll stumble upon bountiful waters. As these lakes are usually within a 40-mile radius, fishing is a favorite weekend activity for locals and the best city break you can have. There's always something to catch around here, so most fishing guides run their trips year round.

The main star of the show is Bass. They come in all shapes and sizes, meaning there's Striped, Spotted, Hybrid, White, Largemouth, and Smallmouth. During spring you can find them in shallow water and they move to deeper spots as the temperature rises in summer. Colder months are great for targeting Crappie or Catfish.

Trips vary from 4–8 hours, depending on your goals for the day. If you're hoping to reach a trophy specimen or catch a variety of species, it's best to take a full day trip. All trips are suitable for both experienced anglers and novices.

One of the closest spots you can go to is Eagle Mountain Lake. Only 20 miles from the city center you can encounter some of the largest schools of White Bass. Other popular, nearby destinations are Grapevine and Lewisville Lake. Your guide will cover your fishing equipment, so you only need to purchase a freshwater fishing license.

Enjoy Fort Worth's never-ending fishing action!

Fort Worth Fishing Seasons

January

Crappie and Catfish are the best way to start your fishing season. Just look for flooded timber and you'll find them.

February

Catfish may not have nice-looking faces but they surely are something when cooked! Various baits work on them as they'll bite anything.

March

Striped Bass start their spawning season in March and you can find them in shallow water. Expect some amazing topwater action!

April

Striped and Hybrid Bass are the most popular catches in April. Look for them along the shoreline and land a few.

May

Look for Crappie whenever you're close to underwater trees and other structures. They're the most desired Panfish in the state, so don't miss out.

June

Striped Bass fishing is amazing! As the temperature rises, they tend to swim in deeper water, so it can be trickier finding them.

July

Largemouth Bass – for some anglers, it's the only reason to go fishing. Try catching one and see why it's so popular.

August

Try trolling for White Bass! They're moving in big schools during summer, especially in Eagle Mountain Lake.

September

Fishing for Largemouth Bass should not be missed! Smallmouth Bass fishing is great too, although they're found in fewer numbers.

October

Bass all around! No matter what type of Bass you're going after, you're probably going to have an amazing time!

November

Crappie and Catfish slowly take the stage as the weather gets colder. Both of them are extremely tasty.

December

Catfish and Crappie are the best choices for December. Striped Bass fishing is also good but you'll have to work harder to catch them this time of year.
