Fishing in Racine

This picturesque city is perfectly positioned at the meeting point of the Root River and Lake Michigan. Hop aboard any of the Racine fishing charters on offer, and you’ll have access to two great fisheries – and a world of opportunities. On land, you can stroll through the Racine Zoo, visit the historic Wind Point Lighthouse, and relax on one of the beaches. First, though, make sure you experience fishing in Wisconsin Racine-style!

Racine’s fishing season kicks off in late spring, when Coho Salmon make their way to Lake Michigan’s western basin. Summer brings hard-fighting King Salmon and Steelhead with it, and fall sees a mixed bag of Brown Trout, Salmon varieties, and Steelhead. Local guides offer trips lasting anywhere from four hours trolling these waters to a full day. A shorter adventure is a great introduction to Great Lakes fishing, whereas a longer trip lets you target potential trophies.

Don’t forget about the Root River, though. It’s one of Lake Michigan’s major tributaries, so you’ll find world-class Salmon and Trout fishing here, but that’s not all. This river boasts Northern Pike, Bass varieties, and Perch. Visit during the summer and you can hop on a half or full day charter and troll the hotspots. In winter, the action doesn’t stop – ice fishing is a popular pastime on this river. Again, you can opt for anything from a half day to a full day adventure.

You’ll find local Racine fishing guides setting up shop all along the lakefront and the mouth of the Root River. The Racine Reefpoint Marina is an especially popular departure point.

Rules & Regulations

If you’re over the age of 16, you’ll need to purchase a valid Wisconsin fishing license to explore Racine’s waters. Want to hook into Trout or Salmon? An additional Great Lake Salmon and Trout Stamp is required.
