Port Washington fishing charters have an excellent reputation that lures in anglers from far and wide, and for good reason. Exploring Lake Michigan from Port Washington really showcases a Great Lakes fishing adventure at its finest. The season here kicks off in April, when Coho and Chinook Salmon start patrolling the waters around the harbor. These species are the superstars of Port Washington, and you’ll usually be trolling for them using planer boards. Steelhead, Lake Trout, and Brown Trout are also on offer, with Trout being an especially popular ice fishing target during winter.
You’ll find local guides setting up departure points all along Port Washington’s lakefront. In the winter when the lake freezes over, some of these guides switch to running ice fishing adventures around the harbors. Depending on your preferences and level of experience, you can opt for anything from a half day trip to a full day out on the water. If you’re age 16 or over, you need to purchase a valid Wisconsin fishing license before you cast your first line in Port Washington. Targeting Trout or Salmon? You’ll need to get a Great Lakes Salmon and Trout Stamp, too.
