Kemah Fishing Seasons
January
Winter hardly makes its mark on the fishing scene in Kemah, so you can always have a great day on the water. You're most likely to catch Sheepshead, Redfish, and Speckled Trout.
February
Sheepshead still outnumber every other fish in the area. They are clever and often times steal the bait without being hooked. Try not to pull the line immediately and you'll get them.
March
Black Drum show up in larger numbers. The best way to catch them is by hooking a shrimp. They're strong fighters, so make sure to pull hard.
April
Inshore spots are more abundant with Flounder, while the anglers heading out to the Gulf will have more chances of catching Mackerel.
May
Waters closer to the Gulf have more Sharks coming through. Inshore species are available in good numbers as well.
June
If you want to avoid the heat, try Flounder gigging at night! They're fun to catch and taste amazing. Great fun for families with children.
July
July is the time when Sheepshead are less present but everything else is will take a good bite. Guides of the area usually go drift fishing.
August
With August comes the peak time to target Redfish and Speckled Trout. Specs are not very picky about bait and it shouldn't be too hard to catch them.
September
This is a great time to go after Redfish. Long casting with light tackle is what usually does the trick for them to bite. Get ready – they're strong fighters.
October
This is probably the best time to target the Big Three! Flounder are back in the game, so all you need is a longer trip, to make sure you have enough time for the Inshore Grand Slam.
November
Sharks and Mackerel are in decline and Gulf trips are less fruitful compared to the inshore ones. Head just a few miles off the coast and you'll be ready to wet your lines.
December
Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Sheepshead are present in decent numbers, so you won't be disappointed. Drift fishing should do the trick for most of them.
