Fishing in Baffin Bay

The southernmost bay on the Texas Gulf Coast invites you to explore its rich, wild waters. Join one of the numerous Baffin Bay fishing guides and let them show you what fishing in the Lone Star State is all about. Known for producing some record-breaking specimens, these shallow waters promise a great time and will quench your thirst for action.

Baffin Bay is a unique inlet of the bigger Laguna Madre, and the nature of its waters makes for some excellent fishing opportunities. The fish here get big, and they get feisty! You can expect to target the most prized Texas inshore species like Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead.

Depending on what you’re looking for, there’s a variety of trips you can embark on in Baffin Bay. Going out with the family? Book a half day trip and make some amazing memories. Looking to fill your bags? Consider a full day trip in order to cover more ground and maximize your chances. And if you’re up for a true Texan adventure – a specialized Flounder gigging trip is what you need!

Considering how big the bay is, there are numerous places where you’ll find fishing guides ready to take you out. Anywhere you go, from the small fishing towns of Riviera and Loyola Beach, all the way to Padre Island, you’re sure to find a charter just for you.

Rules & Regulations

Baffin Bay Fishing Seasons

January
It may be quieter on the water than usual, but that just means there’s more fish to have to yourself. Head out in winter and battle Jack Crevalle, Snook, and even some early Snappers to get your fix.
February
Much the same as January, you can tell the season hasn’t quite got going yet. That doesn’t mean there’s no fishing to be had, though, with plenty of tough-fighting and delicious fish making their way through the bay.
March
You’ll feel things start to heat up in the water with a flurry of activity in March. As the Jacks make their way out of the bay, Snappers join them, giving you the chance to land plenty of delicious fish.
April
The season is almost upon us, with more and more boats taking to the bay. Expect some exciting action as some of the bigger fish come out to play, giving you the chance to test your fishing skills properly.
May
Now that’s more like it! Summer is almost here and plenty of warm-water fish make their way through, ready to set up camp for the season. Take advantage of the early Tarpon and Trout for a real angling treat.
June
Anglers from all over the country flock to Laguna Madre come summer, and for good reason. Get your fish on against beauties like Snook, Tarpon, Snappers, Trout, and many more for your fill of fishing.
July
As the weather hits its peak, so does the fishing. Expect red-hot fishing in red-hot temperatures, as you explore the bay and lagoon for the widest range of fish available, testing yourself time and time again.
August
Don't let the crowded waters put you off... There’s a reason August is such a popular month – and not just because it’s summer. Snook, Tarpon, Flounder, and many more stay for another month.
September
With the kids back in school,  Redfish come into the bay in an attempt to escape the busy fishing season. That just means that there’s another exciting species for you to target come September.
October
There’s no sign of the fish going anywhere, as the water remains full of exciting and delicious species. Jacks make their way back in to keep the fledgling Redfish and Flounder company, ensuring a fun day out.
November
There’s no question that the peak season has ended, but that shouldn’t stop you from heading to sea. Make the most of the quiet waters and get your fish on against the delicious creatures left in the bay.
December
End the year in style with a trip in December. With the crowds gone, you’ll have the pick of the fish to yourself. Get out on the water and land yourself a monster Redfish for the holiday season.
