Fishing in Jersey Shore

Discover the rich angling paradise of the Jersey Shore, where 141 miles of diverse coastline offer unparalleled fishing adventures for all skill levels. From tranquil bays to deep-sea canyons, these waters teem with prized species year-round, making it a premier East Coast destination.

Inshore enthusiasts relish targeting Summer Fluke, Seabass, and hard-fighting Striped Bass in sheltered bays like Barnegat and Raritan. Calm river mouths and jetties provide ideal conditions for beginners to hone techniques while seasoned anglers pursue Tautog and Porgy. The region's backwaters also deliver reliable action for Trout and Bluefish.

Offshore charters venture beyond the reefs where Mahi Mahi and Yellowfin Tuna roam 30 miles out, while further expeditions to the continental shelf challenge anglers with Swordfish and Blue Marlin. Deep-drop techniques and nighttime drifting yield monster Sharks and pelagic giants in the canyons 70-100 miles offshore.

Local captains leverage generations of expertise to navigate these prolific grounds, offering tailored trips on specialized vessels. Whether you seek half-day family excursions or multi-day canyon adventures, Jersey Shore fishing charters provide top-tier equipment and insider knowledge for unforgettable catches. With over 400 licensed boats across major ports, every journey combines safety, education, and maximum fishing productivity.

Jersey Shore Fishing Seasons

January
It’s the quietest time of year along the shore – if there is such a thing. You’ll be lucky to find a captain to take you to target Porgy and Rockfish, so why not enjoy the boardwalks along the deserted beaches?
February
While it may not yer be time to get back on the water, the Jersey Shore has plenty to offer in the way of entertainment. Hit the amusements or fairgrounds and it will feel like you have the coast to yourself.
March
The fishing starts to pick up in March as the milder weather brings more fish and better conditions to get on the water. Hit the bays all along the Shore and warm up for the season ahead.
April
Tautog are in abundance, with plenty of Stripers, Bluefish, and Weakfish on offer as the season is ready to get underway. Get your fill on the bays from Sandy Hook to the Delaware and you’ll be sure to fill the boat.
May
The fishing season is in full swing come May. Seabass, Rockfish, and Weakfish are the order of the day in the bay, while the offshore fishing starts heating up too before the crowds flock in for summer.
June
It’s peak Bluefin Tuna season offshore as summer hits, so come aboard and discover some of the most extreme and rewarding fishing out there. Get ready for the fight of a lifetime to land some delicious meat.
July
A trip to the Jersey Shore in July will teach you why these waters are so revered. The inshore bays are full of Fluke, Bass, and many more, while Yellowfin Tuna and Mahi Mahi join the offshore party.
August
You won’t know where to look come August, so get out on the water more than once to take advantage of the arrival of White Marlin offshore, or take part in the race to land as many Summer Fluke as possible.
September
There’s no sign of the season coming to an end, as Point Pleasant plays host to its annual “Festival of the Sea,” so join in and land some delicious seafood inshore or offshore to play your part.
October
Some lingering pelagics may still be available offshore, but there’s a real sense that the bays are the place to be when fall hits. Get out on the bay and target Seabass, Bluefish, Trout, Fluke, and many more.
November
When November comes around, there’s no longer a dilemma on where to fish. The beasts of the deep have long gone, but the bays are still full of delicious fish, with Tautog returning to the scene for winter.
December
Wind down towards the end of the year, with only a couple of prized species to catch in the bays. Go after Striped Bass and Black Seabass and land yourself a warming treat and celebrate the holidays in style.
