South Carolina’s “Inland Sea” is probably the state’s top freshwater fishing destination. Year-round, you can come fishing on Lake Marion and target some of the country’s most-loved creatures. Fish from shore or hop aboard a charter and head out to the middle of the largest lake in SC, and get your hands full of exciting fish.
Home to the state record Largemouth Bass, it’s no surprise what’s top of the list for anglers in Lake Marion. Whenever you visit, you can get your fill of these tough-fighting beauties. Most captains design their trips to target specific fish, so you’re sure to focus your attention to land that prized catch.
Another trophy to target is the monster Striped Bass. Along with huge, delicious Catfish, they make up the cream of the crop, while Crappie and Perch are the best of the rest. Target them all throughout the year, and you’re sure to fill the boat.
Choose between four-hour and eight-hour trips, depending on how long you can take battling it out with monster fish. The more adventurous among you can even take a trip at night. Come aboard in Summerton or Santee in the midsection of the lake, or Cross in the south, and get your fish on in style.
Rules & Regulations
Before hopping aboard a Lake Marion fishing charter, you’ll need to get your SC freshwater fishing license. With options ranging from 14 days to a lifetime’s worth of fishing, there’s definitely something to cover you.
Other than that, your professional guide will keep you up-to-date with the seasonal limits. Just beware that it’s forbidden to fish for Striped Bass in the summer months, so get ready to release ‘em if you hook one aboard.
