Fishing in North Georgia

North Georgia fishing charters offer unparalleled access to the region's pristine lakes, rivers, and streams, renowned for trophy bass populations and diverse trout fisheries. Lake Burton and Lake Chickamauga rank among the nation's top big bass destinations, where anglers target largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass year-round. The Toccoa River tailwaters and mountain tributaries provide exceptional fly fishing for wild rainbow and brown trout, with private-access wade trips delivering solitude and technical challenges.

Guided adventures cater to all skill levels, from novice spin-fishing excursions on Chattahoochee River to expert fly-fishing trips for stocked striper runs. Professional USCG-licensed captains deploy specialized knowledge of local ecosystems, ensuring productive outings across seven lakes spanning Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Charters include full gear provisions and navigate varied terrains—from serene high-elevation lakes like Conasauga to the trophy flows of Delayed Harvest streams.

Seasonal opportunities abound: Spring through fall for aggressive bass in submerged structures, May-September for river striper migrations, and year-round trout action in cold-water tailwaters. North Georgia's mountain scenery frames every trip, blending rugged Appalachian vistas with accessible fishing within 85 miles of Atlanta. Whether pursuing hard-fighting bronzebacks on Lake Blue Ridge or casting dry flies to risers in secluded tributaries, these charters transform Georgia's aquatic wealth into unforgettable angling memories.

North Georgia Fishing Seasons

January

The beginning of the year is a great time to target schools of Hybrid Bass. Watch for gulls diving and you've found your best fishing spot.

February

February is one of the best months to target Largemouth Bass, especially if you want a trophy-sized one. You may not get many bites, so make them count.

March

Crappie are moving toward spawning areas and you'll easily get them in the areas under bridges. Catfish move to shallow waters.

April

As the temperature rises, there's more action in the water. It's Striper spawning season. In local lakes, you'll also find great numbers of Walleye.

May

Head out to the lake before it gets too hot and target Bass. They feed voraciously on spawning blueback herring. Maybe visit Carters Lake?

June

You can target Catfish in shallow water areas that are right next to deep water. If you're after Bass, get ready for some topwater action.

July

As the weather gets hot, it's comfortable to stay in secluded areas. Go on a wading trip, where you'll be safe from the sun in the fresh breeze of the forest.

August

Never been fly fishing? Now is the time! Find a guide who will take you after different types of Trout and learn to land them in a new way.

September

Target some Hybrids with small topwater poppers or spoons. This is also a good time to catch Walleye, as it's harder to find them when it gets cold.

October

Head out to Blue Ridge Lake! This place offers the best chance to catch Smallmouth Bass. Use small bait on deep rocky points.

November

This is a great time to target Rainbow and Brook Trout. Prepare your fly fishing equipment and visit one of numerous creeks around Ellijay or the Toccoa River.

December

End the year with great Trout fishing. Whether you're casting off on the fly or spinning, it's a trip you'll enjoy and remember.
