According to customer reviews, Lucky Sport Fishing Baja, Lucky Sportfishing Baja, and Todos Santos Adventures are some of the most popular fishing charters in Baja California. Full list of top fishing charters in Baja California.

Lucky Sport Fishing Baja and Todos Santos Adventures received great reviews from families who booked fishing trips in Baja California.

The most popular fish species you can target are Yellowtail Amberjack, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), and Yellowfin Tuna. Top fishing techniques include bottom fishing, trolling, and light tackle. Offshore fishing, inshore fishing, and nearshore fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

A Baja California fishing adventure knows no limits. From the range of bays nearshore, to the deep waters of the Pacific, all the way round to the unusually warm waters of the Sea of Cortez, there’s no end to what you can get up to here. With warm weather year-round, you can come whenever you want and get your hands on some of the world’s most sought-after fish.

Speaking of the fish, what you’ll catch depends on where you go. The bays are full of Snappers, Groupers, Jacks, Mackerel, Seabass, and the exotic Roosterfish. Meanwhile, the Sea of Cortez is a haven for Yellowfin Tuna and Mahi Mahi. Sailfish come right up close to shore, while Striped, Black, and Blue Marlin are available offshore, alongside swarms of Yellowtails, Wahoo, and more.

With so many fish available, you can get your fill on a trip as short as a half day in the bays and the Sea of Cortez. If you fancy an offshore adventure into the Pacific, you’ll want to spend at least a full day, with extended full trips on offer for the pros, too.

Wherever you are in Baja California, you’re not far from a fishing charter. Hop over from SoCal and travel out of Ensenada, or hit the Bahia Tortugas or San Carlos further down the Pacific Coast. Los Cabos and its resort towns in the south are a hotspot for tourists, while every town and village up the Cortez coastline has something for you.

Rules & Regulations

Many fishing charters in Baja California will include your license as part of the package, but it’s always worth checking with your captain before you head out. They’ll also know all there is about bag and size limits, so you know that you’re fishing within the law.

January

Start the year with a splash and come to the sunny shores of Baja California for a nearshore fishing adventure. Yellowtails and Mackerel will provide plenty of light tackle entertainment, along with a delicious dinner.

February

With the holiday fever well and truly over, a vacation surely beckons. Why not head to Mexico, where you can escape the winter blues and get your hands on a range of delicious fish in the shallow bays?

March

There’s still some time to go before the fishing season hits its stride in Baja California, but you can definitely get some early practice come March. Test your bottom fishing skills on the reefs to land some exotic fish.

April

You’ll really feel things starting to heat up in April, as monstrous Striped Marlin start making their way along the Pacific coast and Seabass return to the nearshore waters. Wherever you head, there’s something going on!

May

The whole peninsula comes alive with avid anglers scrambling to get on a fishing charter. Big game fish start coming nearer to shore and even to the Sea of Cortez, giving you a wider range of fish to target.

June

As you reach peak season, it’s difficult to decide where to go on your Baja California fishing adventure. Exotic Roosterfish are aplenty nearshore, with the big game trophies starting to congregate offshore.

July

There’s no doubt that offshore fishing reigns supreme come the height of summer. Blue and Black Marlin join their Striped cousins, along with Sailfish and Albacore to give you the fishing trip of a lifetime.

August

Yellowfin Tuna join the offshore party, even making their way around the peninsula and into the Sea of Cortez. Follow these monstrous, delicious creatures and get your fill of meat to take back to shore.

September

While the kids may be back in school, there’s no sign of things calming down in Baja California. In fact, the fishing has never been hotter, as the offshore beasts and nearshore beauties fill the waters for your enjoyment.

October

Make the most of the last of the deep water fishing opportunities, before the pelagics make their way out of the Sea of Cortez and away from Baja California for winter. Don’t miss out on Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, and more.

November

There’s only one star offshore if you’re looking for a deep sea fishing adventure. If Wahoo’s not your thing, then fear not, as plenty of exciting smaller fish pack the shallow waters nearshore to keep you entertained.

December

What better way to see out the year than with a vacation to the warm seas? Come to Baja California in December and get your hands on Jack Crevalle, Mackerel, and many more prized inshore creatures.

Parking and finding the boat was a little tricky, but they called us and gave us assistance. Caught lots of bonitos, nothing else, maybe just due to time of year. We also went in the afternoon, so not the best time. Fishing Captain was a little slow to respond to emails, but eventually was able to communicate with him and make the changes we needed. They had water and chips for snacks, so remember to bring your own cooler and beer :)

Amazing day on the water. Captain placed us on fish with mahi, yellow fin and Bonita being caught. Very friendly and was there to assist while fishing. A little fresh ceviche from tuna that was caught was perfection. Will be doing this trip again or a longer one.

My capt "chebo" (spelling?) was so great! Awesome day on the water with tons of local info. Ive been fishing a long time but learned some new tricks. Perfect day, got to catch a little of everything and learned alot about the local area. Cant wait to come back down and go again! Great outfit, great boat, lots of fish caught. All in all a great experience! I would highly recomend Lucky Sportfishing to anyone coming to Ensenada. No upsells, no extras, just great fishing! Thank you for a great day!

The boat runs and rides well and is very roomy. We did a 5 hour half day out to an island and back. We had some live bait which worked well. We have 2 boys 8 and 6 and I don’t know who had more fun them or my wife. We were on a good bite nearby all day. We caught over 2 dozen rockfish, a nice ling cod, and some whitefish. I’ll certainly try these guys out again soon for a full day run to the kelp Pattie’s and maybe an overnight for blue fin.

From the moment we scheduled our trip the communication was amazing! Staff was all very friendly and helpful! We were a bit nervous because we self booked this excursion as the cruise fishing excursions were all booked but we could not have asked for a better day. Thank you!

A cool hard working 12 year old working the boat. The battery on the boat is apparently fickle so the boat was never turned off. Even when in anchor still on. But, not every captain is cool with folks diving off the boat. They accommodated that and got our kids tons of rock fishing exposure. I deeply appreciated their flexibility.

Chirac and his crew were great. The boat had lots of room for the 5 of us that joined. We caught a total of 31 fish, tons of barracuda and some red snappers. Chirac knew exactly where to go to catch these fish. Great experience overall and his crew was super friendly and helpful. Next time we will be doing a 12 hour trip to go deeper and hopefully get some tuna!

This is our second time with captain Jerk and even though a few of the guys got motion sickness, the captain took us to a great spot where the majority of us caught a fish. This time I caught the biggest fish. I definitely recommend this experience!!

Great boat, great crew! Did a full-day in-shore trip in July 2022. The captain and crew took us out early and found a hot spot for good sized rock fish and other species. Super friendly crew! We'll be back soon for another day of fishing in Ensenada.

We had so much fun with these guys. Caught a bunch of fish, they cleaned it, and recommended some places that will cook it for you. JB also made amazing sashimi for us. We had the best time and actually extended an hour. Go with this company!

Crew gave us options for type of fishing - halibut, trolling or bottom fishing. Due to conditions (cloudy/foggy, windy, cool - in June!) they suggested bottom fishing. We set up for drifts over rocks and some were more productive than others. We caught reds, bass and others enough for sashimi and fish tacos for days! Entertaining and fun despite the conditions. Highly recommended!

Good time guide didn’t speak English. We caught mostly rock fish but that’s fishing. Guide used a translation app so we could communicate.

Overall great experience. Communication was great from the day we booked it till we got on the boat. All questions were answered ASAP by captain Chirac. Got us a nice bluefin and a yellowtail. Nice conditions, good crew, and some cold beers. Couldn’t ask for a better time
