Every summer, anglers flock to the Atlantic coast for some fun in the sun, and New Jersey fishing charters provide them with amazing opportunities. Are you thinking about exploring the fishing scene of the Garden State? With one of the largest charter fleets in the Northeast, New Jersey will provide you with exactly what you need.

And there’s a variety of fish species you’ll find roaming these waters. The shallows are full of Striped Bass, Bluefish, and Weakfish, while you can pull in Tautog, Flounder, and Seabass with a bit of bottom fishing. The bluewater bite is something else, with Sharks, Marlin, Tuna, and Wahoo all ready to take your bait.

Depending on what kind of adventure you want to have, there are different trips on offer to cater to your needs. If you’re fishing with your family and kids, book a half day trip closer to shore, and have some light fun. If you’re looking to go deep sea fishing, a full day trip is a must. For hardcore anglers venturing to the seriously deep waters of the Atlantic, an extended full day trip is just what you need.

With 130 miles of productive coastline, it’s no wonder that you can find New Jersey fishing charters dotted all along the coast. Wherever you are in the state, just head to the water and you’re set. Atlantic City and Cape May are two of the most popular spots to head out of.

Rules & Regulations

New Jersey fishing charters come prepared with saltwater licenses and registration for all on board, so you can head out and enjoy casting your line hassle-free.

January

The summer season is still a long way away, and most game fish are out of town. You can catch a few Cod offshore, or head to Delaware Bay to target the Stripers wintering here.

February

The first few Flounder start to emerge in the Raritan Bay towards the end of the month. You can still find Stripers wintering in the Delaware Bay, too. The offshore action hasn’t started yet.

March

Most charter boats get back in the water in March, as the first few Striped Bass show up along the coast. By the end of the month, you’ll have decent catches of Bluefish, Flounder, and Crab, too.

April

Things really start to heat up inshore. Stripers are biting hard and Bluefish are fighting them for every bait. Flounder and Tautog are on fire in April, and big Mako Sharks are showing up offshore.

May

Seabass are open for harvest in May, just as Tautog season closes. You can also catch and keep Fluke, making for even better food fishing. There are some huge Stripers around by now.

June

Cape May holds two awesome tournaments in June. The South Jersey Shark Tournament and South Jersey Overnight Tuna Tournament are exactly what they sound like. Great fun battling huge fish!

July

The offshore bite is going crazy, with Tuna, Marlin, and Sharks tearing up the deep water around the canyons. They’re not alone. Every major species is out in force this time of year. Take your pick!

August

One event draws anglers from across the country and beyond each August. The MidAtlantic pays out over $3,000,000 in prizes each year for winning catches of Marlin, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo.

September

The summer may be over, but the fishing shows no sign of stopping! Head offshore in search of Billfish and Tuna or stick to the shallows for Weakfish, Flounder, Striped Bass, and more.

October

This is your last chance to enjoy the Tuna fishing NJ is famous for! Tautog, Striped Bass, Scup, and other food fish will be around for a while still, but the big game species are getting ready to leave.

November

The weather has cooled a lot by now, and the big crowds of high season are long gone. In the water, you can still find plenty of Tautog, Striped Bass, and Flounder, if you can find a charter to take you.

December

The incredible Striper fishing NJ enjoys in summer has dropped off by now. You can find fish hiding in the bays all over the state, though. Tautog don’t mind the cold, and are around well into the month.

Go far offshore if you can. May be spotty close to the reef at this time of year. Better to spend 2x and go big than 1x and go home unsatisfied.

Bring sunscreen and bug spray. Take something before you board the boat if you are prone to getting sick. The motion of the boat out in the ocean can get you. Also, drink lots of water if it’s hot and bring a cooler with drinks and food. Have fun!

There was a mix up on fishingbokker. We thought we were going out for fluke but that wasn’t the case. We didn’t realize until we were at the marina. Not a huge deal but was more of a mixup on the website than a negative review on the ship or captain.

Yes, I would. My husband and I had only been deep sea fishing one time, my daughters family had not been at all. We had a 6 year and an 8 year old. The captain and mate were patient, kind and very attentive to our needs. It was the best day ever.

Captain Tim of Sandy Hook Charters put us on the fish! Late trip in the season had the stripers all spread out, Tim had us "running and gunning" to find them. We pulled in more fish than I could count. The gear was top notch, with every lure onboard that we needed for success. Tim was knowledgeable, and a stand up guy. I would highly recommend to any beginner looking to land their first fish, or avid fisherman seeking a solid day out on the water.

Right Boat and crew but on the wrong day. We went out and unfortunately they weren’t biting. Great conditions but fish just weren’t biting. Cap kept us out a bit longer to try and get them on but they weren’t biting at all. The effort going from trolling to jigging and chased them all day. Great hardworking crew. Me and everyone in my party would use again, luck of the draw a lot of days but Cap Jerry was the best and a good time was still had by all. We will be back.

Casey and Anthony were a top notch team- Casey got us on the fish right away after making it to the grounds, and Anthony was quick with his instructions and helped everyone to hook up and reel em in! All with a storm brewing, we had our limit in an hour and a half after getting underway with this team. The boat was incredible in building seas as well- very stable!!! Our entire group enjoyed the trip so much we were discussing our next booking!

My second trip with Captain Mike this fall. He put us on the fish, started with a double Striper hook up, the we went Togging. We put 30-40 fish in the boat, amazing time. The skills of this Captain are slightly eclipsed by his skill and knowledge as a fisherman. He put my best friend Steve on his very first striper. An day of fishing, laughs and smiles!!
