Arapaima fishing in Thailand is all about big, powerful freshwater fish. These Amazon giants thrive in Thailand’s well-managed fishing parks and stocked lakes. Anglers come for heart-pounding runs, surface takes, and true trophy shots.

Guides here use simple, proven methods. Bait fishing with dead fish or pellets draws Arapaima in. Many lakes also allow lure casting with sturdy swimbaits. Some venues offer fly fishing with large streamers when fish cruise the margins.

Most trips happen on private lakes with expert staff and safe handling gear. Expect heavy tackle, large landing mats, and quick photos to protect the fish. This suits beginners who want guidance and seasoned anglers chasing a personal best. Bring sun protection, polarized sunglasses, light clothing, and a hat. Pack patience, since big bites often come in short windows.

Across Thailand, you’ll find excellent Arapaima lakes near Bangkok and in central provinces like Ratchaburi and Kanchanaburi. Northern hubs around Chiang Mai also host respected fisheries. Coastal resort areas such as Hua Hin have accessible day-trip options. Travel is easy, so you can add a session to a city break or beach holiday.

Rules vary by lake and region. Many venues practice strict catch-and-release for Arapaima, with barbless or circle hooks. Always check local fishing license and permit needs before you go. Confirm current lake policies on seasons, handling, and harvest. Your captain or lake manager will explain the day’s rules and keep you compliant.

    Very nice trip

It was a very nice trip. The crew was great, we felt well taken care of. It was very relaxed. The food was a full treat. The captured fish would be directly prepared and served. We spent lunch in a beautiful bay. We were also snorkeling. Around a perfect trip. Gladly again

    Excellent experience!

My guide John was very experienced. He delivered on all promises and I really enjoyed fishing with him. He provided all the gear and assisted you througout the process. I highly recommend him if you want to make memories that last. Another thing, the lunch offered on the trip was fantastic, Pad Thai (chicken or prawns).
