Itโs windy. Itโs very sunny. Itโs fishing and NOT catching. They do their very best to put you on the fish. They canโt make them bite. Use sunscreen, I did and still got burnt. BRING SUNGLASSES for gods sake. Itโs like welders burn if you donโt. Before you book ask the experts what to expect from the dates you book, if they say itโs bad then it is. Donโt blame them. These 2 guys are AWESOME.

Yes. Carry a poncho just in case. Misting rain does not slow down the fishing but it can make you cold.. Be sure to bring a large cooler, these fish are large.

Book this charter and you will never go wrong. Best time I have had on this water in Santee in 25 years. The most fish I have ever caught in these lakes as well.

Definitely book a charter, preferably Mark Lawson. Prepare for wind and rain. Canal lakes fish camp would be a good choice. Houses and cottages for rent, Mac Daddyโs restaurant is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Small store that has bait and tackle, snacks , beer and other drinks. One stop shopping. And the staff is great! Say hey to Jennifer and Megan at Mac Daddyโs.

Listen to your guide. Have reasonable expectations. Do your research before you book your trip to determine when to go. Call guides before you book. The guides on Santee-Cooper are professionals. You will catch fish and definitely have a great time.

Unfortunately, the fish cleaning station and the bathrooms were all closed by the time we docked at Mac Daddy's and we were really counting on being able to use both. So, note to self for next time, be sure to get back to the dock at Mac Daddy's before they close everything up!
