'João Melo, the Skipper, born in 1969 in Portugal has the passion for the sea and fishing, since he was a child. With a wide professional experience in tourism and events, in 2013 he opened a tourist maritime business activity, focusing on Big Game fishing at the Olhao-Algarve, thus fulfilling the desire to work on what he likes the most. Along with this achievement, he is committed to practice sustainability and protection of the species, by catching, tagging, and releasing them, as well as collaborating with scientific researchers.
His motto is: 'Protection is Fun'
In 2016, Ocean Fun &Fishing Big Game Portugal was created, with the vessel EOLLA III, a Starfisher 840.
The continued will to improve services of excellence lead to the current moment: the recent acquisition of the vessel 'SAL X', a Riviera 36 (renovated in 2023), prepared to provide the best experience of Big Game in Portugal.'

Full Day White Marlin • 6 adultsWhat can I say what an incredible experience! We were celebrating my 50th birthday, and the five of us decided to go marlin fishing. I’ve been many times before but had never caught one. Then, on my 50th birthday, it finally happened: I landed a 70lb white marlin, which we successfully tagged and released! The crew were amazing from start to finish. They even surprised me with a birthday cake, and I loved raising the flag to show that I had caught my first marlin. The boat was perfect, spacious and extremely well equipped. If you’re thinking about going marlin fishing, these guys are the real deal. An unforgettable experience for all five of us and the perfect way to celebrate my 50th birthday!

Full Day White Marlin • 2 adultsThis trip was for my husband, who has always wanted to fish for marlin. we did not have luck this trip, but notfor lack of trying. the captain and crew worked so hard to find he fish,butit was not our day. We did however see a shark, dolphins,and a sun fish. The entire crew was amazing and friendly. They fed us well and even added a bottle of bubbly for our anniversary celebration.

Half day - Reef fishing - Summer • 4 adults • 1 childCaptain and crew were very friendly and welcoming. Went Reef fishing and caught about a dozen fish between the 4 of us. Was hoping for some larger fish but experience was fun overall.

Half day - Family Friends day OFF • 6 adults • 3 childrenCaptain Joao and the guys on board made it a day to remember for the rest of our lives. We went out for white marlin in one of the toughest months of the season and we came back with one caught (20/25KG), one fish lost, saw 50+ dolphins and 2/3 pilot whales. Truly great morning out. We had a lovely breakfast laid on for us on arrival that all of us enjoyed. The boat had more than enough cold drinks of every type for us. They were all very knowledgable and spoke great English and spent time explaining all about the fishing and the fish. We had two kids with us (11 and 9) and the youngest felt sea sick so captain gave him anti sea sickness tablets that obviously worked as he managed to sneak off and eat half of the cake we were given for breakfast 🤣. The other boy caught the first fish we hooked and the guys tagged and released it, giving him a certificate that named the fish after him and gave him a memento of the capture that he will never forget. All in all a great trip and cannot recommend more. I’ll definitely be looking to return and go out again with these guys. Thanks Joao and the boys.

White Marlin Released After Short Fight

Today we had some customers who have already fished in many places around the world and their target was the White Marlin. The atmospheric conditions were perfect it was closed but with the sun appearing between the clouds in the place where the water was at 21.7C, it was really in this spot after 1 hour of sailing we had our Marlin and released after 25 minutes.

Blue Marlin jumping!

Yesterday, August 8, we went to Picos Hermínios (35nautical miles offshore) for the Blue Marlin fishing trip and we had two hooked, for the aspect were between 600lbs and 800lbs but unfortunately for the anglers they released the hook 0/2. We did not have the chance to release and TAG them. Still there for the next trip...

It was a perfect day for Charles and is son, we get out to the sea and in 45 minutes we hooked a BFT, Charles who never fished if Game fishing, it seemed that it was his pelagic 10, after 1h30m
We land it and release a 200kg BFT.

Skipjacks and Mako attack

Today we went with a family to pick up Skipjacs and it was a success, we even had to take the lines out of the water because we already had the amount allowed by law.
It was fun for everyone, for some it was the first big game fishing experience. Congratulations to everyone, always welcome.

Another special day. The water temperature was to cool for the White Marlin 18/19 degrees Celsius, but after searching for warmer areas after a long time, we finally found 20.5/21 degrees Celsius, and were they are White Marlins. Another angler who caught his first White Marlin, Alexander spent 15 minutes fighting this majestic pelagic. He was tagged with a Satellite Tag the Mate released him! Congratulations to Alexander and his partner, Yuliia, for choosing us to spend this day on the see. Wanting for you to come back 2026.
