Overall we have had a much warmer than usual fall. However, the last two weeks have brought some consistantly cooler days and finally brought down the water temp. In turn, it has really turned the fish on. The last couple of weeks have been the best so far this year. The redfish are beginning to get in larger schools and can be caught on a variety of techniques. The seatrout are starting to show up as well. We have also been catching some random flounder on our last few trips. The pictures above are from a brackish water trip in the Cooper River I took on a day of the other day. The cooper right now we are only using artificial and it is consistently producing high numbers of both redfish and largemouth. The 6 and 8 hour trips have been the best by far as they allow more fishing time and allow us to travel to some other areas. However the 4 hiur trips have still been very good for redfish and the creeks in the harbor that are more local are fishing great too.

The redfish bite has continued to be hot lately. There are a lot of shrimp in the creeks now and the redfish have chosen that for their choice meal. Any shrimp style artificial lures and live shrimp are the best way to catch them. There is also still trout biting. This bite will also better once we get some colder weather.

Today I had yhe day off from guiding. After a long chain of very successful guide trips without me fishing on my own. I needed to take a day and search for fresh fish and particularly trout. The trout were biting great for me! Anytime i fish for trout, we catch them on artificial. Using artificials and covering water is by far the most efficient way to catch these guys. I ended up catching quite a fee on a pink jerk bait and a Z-Man shrimp. The biggest one was about 24 inches!

We seem to be past the hot weather, the fish are beginning to school up, and the bait is leaving the creeks meaning the left over reds are extra hungry! We have, on the right tide been boating 15-25 fish on most trips and even a few 40 fish days this month. The creek fishing is excellent. We are still doing mostly a mix of cut mullet and live mud minnows as well as some artificial mixed in. This time of year, I can do artificial only for people interested in that as well. Although this is a fun way to catch them, this doesnt always catch as much as including live bait. We are also catching some trophy bull redfish on some trips. Yesterday, we spent around 30 minutes at the end of our trip and were able to catch the one in the picture above. They bite best in low light. I prefer fishing for them on the higher tides when the creek fishing has slowed down in order to make the best of the trip. As we approach November, I would expect the numbers of creek redfish and seatrout to get higher, as the fishing will continue to get a little better. However, anytime for the rest of the year should pose for a very fun and productive trip as we are already in what is considered peak season.

Fall is the best time to fosh for red drum here in Charleston and its in full swing now! Today we fished the 6 hours around low tide. 3 outgoing followed by 3 incoming. We were able to catch around 30 fish and a good variety, primarly red drum. One of the more u usual catches for us was a small Gag Grouper of the same cast we were catching lots of red fish. The fishing is better than it has been and will continue to get a bit better than it is now. Timing is still bery important. While harbor fishing for sharks and bulls the level of tide is not as important. For creek fishing for slot reds and trout, the last 3 hours of outgoing and first two on incoming are substantially better then other times. We are still using mostly live bait rigs however all of our trout are coming on artificial currently and we do occasionally find some redfish on topwater in the morning. The next three months will be the best fishing we have all year around here. We still have some spots open. Lets get out and fish!
