We had a great time.  This was the first time fly fishing and Lyle was awesome with teaching.  Would highly recommend him.

It was our first fly fishing experience and we could not have been in better hands. Lyle has great enthusiasm as well as knowledge and was so encouraging and patient with all of us but especially our 13 year old son - who caught a fish within minutes! He took us to a few beautiful places where fish were biting and taught us more than we ever expected to learn in a few short hours. It was a magical morning that made some very special memories.

As a novice angler, I was a bit anxious about going on a fly fishing trip in Yosemite. However, Lyle, my guide from Tight Line Therapy, made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. He was patient with me as I learned how to cast, and to find and eventually to catch fish.

On our first day out we hiked almost 6 miles along the Merced River, and it was worth every step. The scenery was breathtaking, and the gold rush history palpable. Lyle provided insight along the way about varying water conditions below, and what they meant for trout and the prospect of catching them. He taught me the mechanics of casting a fly rod. We saw all sorts of wildlife including deer and a bald eagle!

On the second day we paddled Lyle’s boats on Lake McClure. Fishing for the pot this time, we were quickly and handsomely rewarded, limiting out on a feast in a few hours. Back at the lodge that night we ate like kings: Lyle cooked scallops and our fresh-caught trout on a caveman-style hollow-log fire unlike anything I’ve seen before, and it was delicious.

It was clear that Lyle cared not only about our experience catching fish that day, but also about preserving the sport for future anglers and the environment for future generations.

In sum, this was my most rewarding weekend in at least a year: I had a ton of fun, learned a lot (using someone else’s gear!) and ate well. I would recommend fishing with Tight Line to anyone who isn’t an absolute expert on the trout in the upper Merced.

Lyle was the absolute best instructor we could have asked for! Me and my gf had never fly fished before and he was very informative and patience from the beginning. We went over all of the basic casting techniques, how to read the water, manage the line, set up your flies, and so much more. Lyle was such a cool and down to earth guy and I can’t thank him enough for showing us such a great day. I feel like the lessons he taught us today just made us want to keep coming back again and again just to soak up as much knowledge as we can from him. I highly recommend anyone on the fence about needing a guide to just go for it and you will not be disappointed. Thanks so much again for everything and I cannot wait to get back up here.
