Cold months require a little more effort if you're planning to go fishing out at sea, however, you'll still have plenty of opportunities to target freshwater fish on the Kenai River or one of Soldotna's many lakes.&nbsp;

Snap out of the winter blues and book an ice fishing trip in Soldotna. You'll have the chance to target Lake Trout, Arctic Char, and Northern Pike on one of the area's surrounding lakes. While you're here, be sure to check out Soldotna's Frozen RiverFest!

March produces solid opportunities for freshwater fish, such as Northern Pike and Lake Trout. Peak season for charter fishing is still a few months away but there are chances to target Rockfish and Halibut offshore, just be sure to keep an eye on the weather.

April marks the beginning of the Dolly Varden spring run, so get ready to take out the fly gear and head out to the Kenai River to target this elusive species. Steelhead fishing starts to pick up towards the end of the month as well, so don't put that fly rod away just yet!

Spring fishing gets kicked into high gear. Head offshore to target Halibut, Rockfish, and Herring or head down the Kenai River to target King Salmon, Steelhead, Dolly Varden, and Arctic Char.

Bottom fishing is known to produce excellent opportunities in June. This is when Halibut and Rockfish are at their peak and start to take the bait much more frequently than any other month. It's also prime time for Kenai Kings so don't don't rule freshwater fishing out either!&nbsp;

Soldotna fishing is excellent in July, in terms of both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Lingcod start to show up in numbers throughout Cook Inlet, as well as Halibut and Rockfish. Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Char, and all five types of Pacific Salmon can be targeted throughout July.

Happy days continue throughout August as anglers get to enjoy fishing in Cook Inlet as well as the Kenai River. You'll have a chance to catch all five Pacific Salmon species, so book a full-day trip and head home with delicious fish for the family.

Soldotna hosts the Kenai River Women's Classic in September each year to support habitat restoration and preservation, as well as to promote sustainable fishing practices. This is a great fundraising event and an awesome opportunity to enjoy fishing while supporting a great cause.

October is your last opportunity to head offshore to target Rockfish, Halibut, and Lingcod. Be sure to check out Skilak Lake and challenge the Northern Pike bite on light tackle as well. While out there, you might also encounter Trout, Dolly Varden, and Char.

Winter is coming! This means ice fishing season is among us. Build a fire, drill a hole, and drop a line in search of Grayling, Arctic Char, and Northern Pike.

The winter season is in full swing, which means ice fishing in Soldotna is the name of the game. You can also still book a river guide to take you out looking for monster river fish for some action on light tackle.
