Hi Annerose I’m sorry your day for catching gts and Spanish mackerel didn’t produce anything substantial in that department .sometimes that’s fishing too.however on your day the weather was not as forecast and the further we went out the worse it was getting so I liased with you to go to plan b .there was lots of cloud cover and the ocean had come up to a solid 15knots we were not able to get to our plan a spot for catching gts and Spanish mackerels so we had to resort too our plan b sections of the reef to try for them in which on the right days can be very productive .however once again our weather had let us down so again we had to come up with a plan to catch something of quality .so as I had already said in our itinerary we would do bottom bouncing and jigging for big large mouth nannygai as well we started with this and did so for approx 2hrs , in this time you caught approx 12 to 14 fish some of quality size and we released a lot back to see another day ,we also jigged for them and you also jigged some of your lures as well after 2hrs we decided it was time to put the lures in for Spain ish mackerel’s and troll up the edge of the reef ,we found a bird school and worked this as well to no avail but sometimes that is fishing too .after this period which was another 2hrs of trolling it was time to throw poppers and stick baits across the top of some great bombies I have where we have caught lots of gts before however the weather had progressively got worse and was becoming dangerous as we were in approx 4 to 8mtrs of water and I couldn’t see the reef so as a responsible captain I called the gt fishing fishing off due to the weather .i will also add we did this for approx 1.75hrs before I thought it was getting too dangerous for my comfort zone and I will add l liased with you throughout the whole day to what we would have to do if the weather had become not so nice and you agreed the whole time .so we proceeded back in to where we could seek a bit of protection to finish off the last 1/2hr of the day bottom bouncing .unfortunately we get theses days and have got to do the best we can under the circumstances to give give a good day which I thought we were having unfortunately again the gts and Spainish mackerel were not biting but we did great on the large mouth nannygai and you too also seemed stoked .if this is the review I do get for being a responsible captain I’m going to have to live with it however I do believe under all circumstances I did the correct thing and we did have a great day I’ve posted some of the fish caught and the smiles they created cheers Gavin port Douglas sportfishing

Ok first things first ,this review is incorrect.I don’t mind getting a review constructively ,telling me ,where we can improve our services ,I don’t like hearing that the guests experience with me was poor .I strive to be the best I can ,and try to give the guests the best experience I can ,and you only have to see my other reviews that will show this ,however, I hate reviews that don’t tell the truth .i have the documentation to prove that Mr donnellan doesn’t like the truth to get into the way of a good yarn .Also I will add in here I received a demanding letter that he wanted $600.00 deposited into a bank account by a date or obviously he was going to leave a not so good review ,I have documentation to prove this .Once again ,leave a review good ,or not so good ,but tell the truth .he has claimed that the trip was $1850 .incorrect ,it was $1650.00 reef and inshore ,of this 10 percent goes to my booking agent ,fishing booker and I have the documentation to prove this .Normally at this point the guest will tell you what they want to do in which Mr donnellan did .Secondly he claims that I cancelled the event .Incorrect , I asked if he would like to cancel as the weather had taken a nasty turn and that I deemed the event to the reef to be dangerous ,this would have given Mr donnellan a full refund .however we could do an event inshore and up the estuary and surrounding areas ,his reply to this was ,yes please ,once again I have the documentation to prove this .My trip with fishing booker clearly states reef and inshore so Mr donnellan clearly understood that we didn’t have to cancel the event if he accepted the alternative of inshore being exactly that ,inshore ,and I clearly stated what we were going to do ,and target species we would be trying for .and to that we got a nice big ,yes please .documentation to prove this ,and last but not least ,if reviews are going to be honest advising people of the service provided you must tell the truth and if your going to compare another persons charter ,you must compare apples with apples, not apples with sultanas .Mr donnellen claims he did a charter the next day, in which I’m not disputing nor am I saying anything derogatory about as I know nothing of what he did or who with ,but going on the figures he has quoted ,he has compared a half day shared charter and possibly only for 2pax with a full day private charter these can’t be further apart from the same thing ,they are completely different . The other part of this review that doesn’t sit well with me also ,is I didn’t ask for the payment until the end of the charter where Mr donnellan paid by card and viewed the amount ,accepted the amount ,shook hands ,said he and his companions all had a good time .I will agree that the reef is so very different from the inshore and estuary system .but we are talking two very separate styles of fishing and both styles can be very productive at times ,on this day we did a variety of styles and techniques Mr donnellan had claimed to have got 4or five nice strikes by lure ,prematurely grabbed a rod on a fish that was more than likely a sure thing ,his companions also claiming strikes and one claiming a nice sized barramundi followed the lure all the way to the boat .we also got a very aggressive stingray that the two younger companions shared the Catch .We got up close and personal with a croc in the wild ,so the day I thought was a good day ,I will also say that Mr donnellan had cut the trip short by 2hrs in which ,the part of the tide he cut it short on ,could have been very productive ,and on getting off the boat Mr donnellan and his companions were happy, as they all thanked me for the day and said they had a good time .Of coarse I’m a little annoyed that he is now not very happy ,however I done everything by the book ,and by the trip ,and correspondence we had detailing the itinerary ,and he was happy on the day ,and had every chance to dispute the amount right there and then .regards captain Gavin cairns sportfishing

Hi Richard I’m sorry you felt this way .I do try to tell you what I’m doing ,and targeting ,and how I go about catching and targeting different species ,and also try to keep everybody interested .by including them in what im doing .As for the not being ready for the morning session ,all the rods were rigged and ready I was in the water 55 minutes earlier ,over at the creek adjacent the ramp, catching live baits for your trip ,this normally happens in the 4hrs trip however I knew it was going to be difficult to catch livies on the neap tides so I went early,  in which I got a few for you guys to be able to target barramundi straight away . I was exactly 4minutes early by my electronics time to pick you guys up , we then had our safety speech on the vessel which once again is in the 4hrs trip ,then we were away fishing. The only thing I did do before you guys stepped onto the vessel was wiped over the esky seat and combing from any debris from throwing the cast net otherwise the boat was tidy and very ready to except patrons .  We targeted barramundi we caught barramundi and a nice 825mm barramundi, so as far as I’m concerned we accomplished what we set out to do .I might also add I remained fishing for an extended 1/2 hr later than the 4hr session .you guys all jumped off shook my hand and seemed happy .and seemed pretty darn happy holding up the Barra .Sometimes as a guide, it’s very hard to try catch fish and live baits ,on any tide that the charter falls on ,your charter was also very challenging as you gave me neap tides to work with ,this normally is extremely hard in the estuary to fish on neap tides to catch bait and fish ,once again we got a nice barramundi so I was stoked for you guys and the guy that caught it was over the moon .we did also manage to get a few other small bycatch ,also that kept everybody interested so I’m a little surprised at your review however I do value your review and will take on board enjoy the rest of your break cheers Gavin cairns sportfishing

Hi Tony I’m sorry you didn’t have a good time .sometimes the inlet can be a bit tough for fishing and I make no secret of that .  I always look at turning a reel and that we did with about 5 fish being caught for the session ..the boat was clean and ready to fish and we’ll equipt with rods and reels and drinks   .we caught some live bait and had plenty of dead baits too and moved to lots of spots ..unfortunately we didn’t catch any of our target species but still managed to turn the reel and I still thought we had a pleasant time ..you were approximately 30 minutes late and I extended the session to make sure you still fished the 4hrs plus some .and thought I guided well sharing knowledge of the area and style of fishing we were doing .however I do value all reviews and will take on board your score to hopefully make your experience better next time if you choose us to fish with again .  enjoy the rest of your stay here in Cairns cheers Gavin cairns sportfishing
