Shoutout to Red Alert Charters!

My brother and I recently had the pleasure of heading out with Captain Ken from Red Alert Charters for a winter trip on the Indian River in Melbourne, and it was an absolute standout experience.

Captain Ken completely delivered on his promise of a great day. He knows these waters like the back of his hand, and it showed. The highlights of the day included:

The Big Catch: Landing a feisty 24 lb. Black Drum that gave us a serious run for our money!

Variety: We also brought in some beautiful Speckled Sea Trout, and Mangrove Snapper, adding some great action to the day.

The Vibe: Beyond the fishing, we were fortunate to have perfect Florida winter weather and some truly fine banter. Captain Ken isn’t just a knowledgeable guide; he’s great company on the boat and even had a stocked cooler for our trip.

we made a short notice booking with a cold front moving in. We showed up at 07:15am at the meeting location and off we went.  The tempature was 39 deg with a 5-7mph wind with a high of 59-deg. for the day.  looking for warm water we stopped at location #1 and with in 30-45 minutes we had 3 of the biggest sheepshead fish of the season (per guide).  Then off to location #2 for some Red fish, by the third cast a red fish hit and ran straight for the boat with a massive run and pulled the hook, (now that was a trophy red).  This put the whole boat on high Red alert!  Well as an experienced fisherman from the west this style of fishing was a little learning curve for sure. After a few missed opportunities we landed 3 Reds, only problem was all reds were not allowed to be kept so back in the water they went. Dang it! After everyone had a sheepshead, a red, we went after the blackdrum to complete our Drum Slam. We loaded up and went on a hunt for black drum at location #3.  With in a short amount of time my daughter caught 2 black drum to complete a Drum slam for the boat.  With limited expectations due to weather you could say it was a successful experience and trip.

We have gone out with guides multiple times in numerous places but have never had a fishing guide hop out of the boat to help land a fish! We caught the biggest fish of our lives and had a blast doing it. Minus the one Snook we caught, we caught fish we had never caught before - Black Drum, Red Fish, Sheepshead. Kenny has a great personality, he was fun to be out with, took us to a lot of different sites. Well worth the trip and the time spent with him for a great trip out. We are looking forward to going out with him again and would definitely encourage you to consider him. Thanks for the memories!

Honestly, i dont know where to start as this was the absolute best fishing experience that ive had on a private charter. Captain Ken is extremely knowledgeable of the fish and the environment they live in. He knew where they were and he demonstrated that by putting us on a variety of fish to catch n cook and also some to release. Most notably was my catch of a 32 inch Red that i plan to put on the wall in my office. And by the way, im getting that done through him as well. He even jumped in the water to make sure i didn’t lose him! Just an absolute great guy that i plan to fish with every year as i come back down to visit my family in Florida. Thanks again Captain! We tested our luck fishing right after Florida’s cold snap and our trip did not disappoint! Captain Kenny went above and beyond to make sure we had some amazing catches! He’s a super fun guy and has tons of knowledge to teach. We are visiting from Maine so it was awesome on top of catching fish we were able to see dolphins and other local wildlife. Would definitely book again if we are in the area!
