I had three generations on the boat for sweet Miss Lilly's birthday fishing trip. She flew all the way down here from Ohio with her dad to fish in the Gulf with her Grandpa Andy for her birthday. Miss Lilly stole the show and stole my heart out there fishing. I was "Mr Captain Mike" all day yesterday as she asked so many questions and listened well, and fished hard through the tough wind and rough seas we had yesterday. She was just so polite and sweet the whole trip. What a great kid and boy could she fish also. She out fished both her Grandpa Andy and her dad Drake, who are both experienced fishermen. She caught her first Redfish, Black Drum, Flounder, and Lady Fish! However, Her best catch, in my opinion, was the big Sheepshead she caught inshore in the shallow water. She wanted to get a lot of pictures so she could prove to her friends back home that she had fished the gulf and caught a lot of fish! As a crew, everybody did well, considering we were limited in our areas to fish due to the windy, sloppy day. They caught quite a few fish, and we picked out the best for a couple of dinners. They also caught a lot of fish that were just under legal limit, so of course, they all went back to grow. At the end of the trip, Miss Lilly gave me a big hug, and I let her know she is welcome on my boat anytime! Happy Birthday Miss Lilly!!!

ยท I made some new friends yesterday on a half day charter out of Yankeetown Marina. Dave drove down from North Carolina to see what our Nature Coast had to offer. He was supposed to come down here with his fishing buddy who backed out at the last minute, so he came solo. Somehow, even though his wife does not fish, he was able to talk her into flying down on a one-way ticket to join him. Now Dave loves to fish, but Martha told me flat out she would rather be shopping than fishing ?! Things started out a little slow for us, so I don't think at first anything happened that would change her mind about that. However, we made a move, and next thing you know, Dave caught a few Seatrout. Then Martha caught fire and started hooking up with a bunch of trout, including the biggest of the day at 18 in and 19 in respectively. Dave also hooked up to a decent size Spanish mackerel before We decided to move off the trout bite to see what else we could put into the box. Martha finished off the day catching a beautiful Sheepshead, and Dave finished it off with a nice eating size Black Drum. It looks like Dave might have a new fishing partner! Overall it was another great day in God's Country with an incredible husband and wife team that I now call my friends!!! A special thank you to Andrew and the crew at Captains Cove for the bait and tackle that makes these awesome days possible!

I was blessed to have some super nice folks on the boat yesterday! Tom, Becky, Ed, and Joe picked off a few fish during the course of the day with an almost non-existant tidal flow. However, they kept their heads in the game, and when the tide changed and started coming in, the good Lord blessed us with enough current to really turn on the fish, and they were hungry. They put together an impressive cooler, including Redfish, Black Drum, Seatrout, Flounder, Pompano, and Mangrove Snapper. Joe also picked up a 30-in tank of a Redfish, which, of course, went back into the pond. Tom was the Silent Assassin on the boat yesterday?! He fished off the back of the boat in probably the worst position all day and caught the most fish including 25-in Redfish, some big Seatrout, Black Drum, Pompano, and a 4 ft Bonnet head shark that gave him a great fight on light tackle, but Tom won the battle and got the shark to the boat! Another awesome day in God's Country!!!

I can not say enough good things about this crew! It was Willie's 40th birthday celebration charter with his wife Laurel and his father Eddie. They jumped on fish early and put quite a few in the box right at the start until slack tide. Picked off a few more fish during the course of the day to put in the box and finished it out in style with some drag pulling Black Drum. They fished hard, stuck with it through the ups and downs of a typical fishing day, lost a few heartbreakers, but put a lot more fish in the boat than they lost. They ended up with a nice box of fish for Willie's birthday party fish fry as a result. They took home Black Drum, Seatrout, Flounder, and Spanish Mackerel. Other species of fish caught during the day included Redfish and Jack Crevalle as well as a few puffers and, of course, a couple of nasty catfish?. I am so grateful to consistently have folks like this on my boat. Sometimes, it's hard to believe that this is what I do to make a living. Thank you guys for making my job so enjoyable!

I was blessed to have this outstanding crew on my boat yesterday. Started the day with Ben, Bryan, and Austin, who have been friends for 20 years, fishing the river to stay out of the wind, and it was a little slow although we did pick up a few Redfish. Decided to make a run outside, and the wind and seas laid down enough to make for a beautiful afternoon of fishing in the Gulf. Caught over 20 trout, and kept 14 good ones for dinner. Left them biting to go find some bigger drag pulling fish. Put an exclamation mark on a great day of fishing with a few big Jacks pulling drag before heading in. What a great group of guys who know how to have fun and enjoy fishing as much as I do! Thanks guys!!!

I had a great day with Katie and her dad Pete, and Katie's friends Jamie and Jess. This Crew fished hard all day, and it paid off for them. We had to move around a lot but caught some quality Redfish, and kept three nice ones. The girls even had a nice double up, so I scooped the Redfish up in the same net. Trout bite was not great, but we managed a couple of nice keepers and a few throwbacks as well. Filled in the time around the bigger fish with quite a few small Sheepshead and a bunch of Snappers that were right about 10 in to 10 and 1/4 inches. We put those back to grow a little more. Those Snappers will be a little chunkier and some good eating in a few weeks. Highlight of the day was the fat 26 and 3/4 inch Redfish that Jess caught on a medium light rod on light leader, with a tiny hook that had just a little scrap of shrimp on it. This Rod was set up for Sheepshead, not for top of the slot redfish... I guess elephants do eat peanuts! After an extended fight and lots of drag pulling, she got it to the boat, and we landed it safely. Turned out it was barely hooked in the lip and probably would not have stayed hooked up for another run so the Lord was looking after us on that one! Thank you guys for choosing God's Country Fishing Company.
