Campbell River, Canada
- Background
- I was a diving instructor on the Great Barrier Reef for 10 years and spent another 10 working on Super Yachts around the world. I have been lucky enough to have fished around the world for many different species. There are many different ways to catch fish in different parts of the world and this is what keeps fishing interesting. Patience is one thing but the thrill of targeting a species and landing it on the deck is another! Having discovered Campbell River and exploring the beautiful islands over 2 summer trips to Alaska, I knew I had to live here and raise the family. I set up 50North Adventures offering fishing charters, whale watching, and tours into Desolation Sound. Having access to such a vast area and diversity, we have the ability to hit many different fishing spots as the fish are biting!
- Techniques
- You have to have a Lure in the water to catch a fish!!! Keeping it simple and not getting too caught up in everything new that appears on the market. I love the "Fish On" moment as the rod tip gives you the nod and then the one on one that follows. Fishing for these Salmon here is like targeting big game like marlin, you set up with all the gear and troll lures to entice the bite, then wait........ only this is now at depths of up to 400feet! Salmon are moody and can be fussy so mixing it up with gear regularly helps and tides can be critical. Once you find something that is working you stick with it thats for sure! Find the bait and you will find the bite!
