We had a morning departure scheduled, basically the entire trip it was huge rough swells or a lot of rain so we couldn’t make it to the ideal location. But we all toughed it out and had a great time, and still brought in several large sharks. The captain was very responsive and good with our 10yr old son as well, so even though the fishing ended up not great, he felt like like he went on the adventure of a lifetime afterwards. Hopefully we’ll rebook some time in the future with better luck with the weather.

Captain Ben was awesome! Our family came from all across the country to reunite for a quick long weekend.  Captain Ben got us into trolling for mackerel then floor fishing for sharks. All 6 of us were able to reel in both species. He gave us a lot of pointers and was fun to joke around with. It was nice of him to clean and filet our catch. This trip was a lot of fun. We would highly recommend Black Skimmer charters and Captain Ben to anyone.

This was our third year fishing with the Black Skimmer, and once again, it was a great experience. Captain Ben and his mate, Jackson, went above and beyond to make sure our trip was a success.

Captain Ben wasted no time getting us on the fish. We booked a 5-hour shark fishing trip, but it turned into so much more. Throughout the day, we had a large variety of catches, including hammerheads, bonnetheads, Atlantic sharpnose sharks, catfish, and even a massive red drum.

I can’t say enough about Captain Ben and his crew at the Black Skimmer, and I highly recommend this boat to anyone who is visiting HHI.

Our group of 6 was brightly greeted by Captain Ben and Matt. We were quickly welcomed aboard and positioned ourselves for the journey. As we slowly pulled away from the Harbour Town lighthouse and golf course. We began to hear the whistle of the turbos and we were quickly jetted away towards Tybee Island. Where we dropped some lines and trolled the area(not much luck there). After a half an hour there, Captain Ben suggested another spot and off we went. When the engines began to come to a slow lope. Matt came down from above and quickly began to cast out the lines before we knew it we were surrounded by birds and Spanish mackerel breaking the surface of the water all around the boat. For the next few hours it was a constant rotation of us grabbing poles and cranking them in. After hearing the zinging of the line on the deepest pole Matt quickly positioned one of us on the pole but as soon as it came it went. But it triggered a new sense of excitement from the crew and the tackle was quickly changed. With the catching of a few more Spanish mackerel it wasn’t long before we had something on the lower rod again and it was a good one. Matt quickly took position near the rod. Gaff in hand he assisted controlling the line. Captain Ben called for someone to quickly assist him in holding the gaff. Uncle Trey ran up and passed him the gaff just in time to bring the king mackerel aboard. We swayed along with the birds and mackerel for another hour till our arms were all tired. Then Captain Ben asked if we were ready to try something different. We could all use some rest on our arms so we agreed. Then we heard the turbos once again and back over to the Savannah shipping channel. Matt began baiting the hooks with some live bait and before you knew it we were bringing hammerheads aboard.  The kids loved watching them dance all over the deck. Needless to say we had a blast. Matt made small work of filleting the catch which brought on many spectators back by the lighthouse. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip. Hope to try to make it back in the future take another trip on The Black Skimmer.

Had a great day on the water today.  I booked a 6 hour trolling and reef fishing trip for my family.  It was my wife and I and our three teenagers.  It started with a quick trip to catch bait, then to the reef.  It was hit and miss at the reef, but Ben and Matt worked very hard. After a few catches they knew when to call it and head to another area.  We started trolling and had multiple fish on at the same time.  They were very helpful, knowledgeable, and were able to work with our novice kids and help out more experienced ones.  Great job and great trip. We will definitely book again.
