4 hours half day trip • 3 adults • 1 childWe had a great fishing trip with Michael today! He was awesome from start to finish, really friendly, helpful, and knew his stuff. He made sure everyone was comfortable, gave us some great tips, and made the whole experience really fun. His knowledge of the area and passion for fishing definitely made the day memorable. We had a really good time and would definitely recommend Michael to anyone looking for a fun fishing charter. Thanks again for a great day on the water!

4 hours half day trip • 4 adultsWe booked this on our last day in New Zealand for our lads, to finish off a boys rugby tour. And what an experience.!! Captin Michael Wang knows all the places to go, over certain reefs etc, and he knows exactly how to fish them, right down to the currents and baiting up tricks. He's an extremely knowledgeable seaman, and been on the water all of his life. You're in great hands with him.!! We were a little pushed for time as had flights to catch, so could only do the 4hr trip, but fishing was hot and Capt Wang wanted us to land a big one before we left so stayed out on the water an extra hour or so. I wasn't expecting much in 4 hours, but omg we had tons.!! Over 50+ Snapper of all sizes, a 2.5ft lemon shark. We did catch a big King Fish, approx 1>1.5m but the line broke and it got away. Even snagged a sea bird. Amazing value for money... and Capt Wang offered to fillet us up some sushi from our catch afterwards, but we didn't have enough time to hang around. Would highly recommend him, will definitely be going again with him if we're ever back in NZ. He was also considerably cheaper than some of the more popular names in the area. 5 Stars 🌟 Thank you Capt Wang 🙏

6 Hour Trip – Private • 3 adults • 1 childWe did a 6 hour private charter for 2 adults and 1 child with Michael and we caught 58 snapper between us and 3 kahawai (Australian salmon). my son got his biggest snapper ever and was thrilled. Thanks for a great day!

6 Hour Trip – Shared • 2 adultsWe had an excellent half day on the water with Michael. As an avid fisherman from Aust our small group appreciated his knowledgeable of the area by putiing us on the fish from the first drop. While the weather wasn’t fantastic (constant rolling swell and pretty heavy winds) 4 of us were able to fish comfortably with Michael looking after all baiting and rerigging required. Our group caught over 50 fish during our 4hrs of fishing. As we are on a cruise from Aust all but 2 were released, which Micheal Sushimi’d for us back at the dock. A great trip and highly recommend!!

I didn’t have high expectations for a 4-hour trip since it’s usually around the harbour, but he went the extra mile to find a great spot, even taking a longer ride. The result was totally worth it, over 20 legal fish for the whole boat within just 2 hours! Captain Wang is friendly, professional, and really knows how to help you catch fish. I’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great fishing trip. 🎣

What's biting with NZ Legend Boating Academy Ltd in Auckland
As if out of the blue, the fishing kicks in for real in October in Auckland. The fish are spawning and feeding up aggressively, with Kingfish coming up from the bottom to chase jigs, poppers, and stickbaits at the top of the water. Snapper fishing is as good as it gets.

A great family day out on the water

Today is a nice day again. Light wind, smooth sea, a bit cloudy. Bites were active, clients caught 19 snappers and one kahawai. The biggest one is 48 cm long by a kid with light gear.
So far, the biggest snapper of 2026 is 60 cm long (caught on 1st of January).

4 hours short trip report

Recently we have done several 4 hours short trips, in Matiatia Bay area. The catches over there were quite good, including big snappers, Trevalley, Yellowtail Kingfish, etc. Meanwhile big sharks are active as well—-Lemon sharks. We have released them successfully.
When the weather is good we usually arrange open water trips. Over there the depth of water is about 40 meters, where there are more opportunities to catch different kind if fish, as well as decent size yellow tail kingfish.
