As a youngster, I became passionate about fishing as I fished with my Father, Grandfather, and other family members and friends. Fueled by a competitive spirit and driven to understand the details of how to become a better angler, I am always learning and becoming a better guide and tournament angler. I do not consider Guiding to be as much of a job as I see it being an opportunity to share the Lake Erie experience with others. I look forward to teaching others what I know about the sport and to watching others catching fish and having fun.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Lake Erie Fishing Experience with Captain Jim Wick!

    4hr Morning Trip • 3 adults

Captain Jim Wick gave us an absolutely fantastic day on Lake Erie. There were three of us, and from the beginning, Jim made the entire experience easy, enjoyable, and memorable. We came home with 18 walleye! Jim knew exactly where to put us on the fish, and he was patient, knowledgeable, and willing to teach along the way. We weren’t just passengers on a boat — we felt like we were fishing with someone who genuinely wanted us to have a great experience. What really put Jim over the top was what happened afterward. His afternoon charter happened to cancel, and instead of simply calling it a day, he took the extra time to clean all 18 of our walleye for us. He certainly didn’t have to do that, and it says a lot about the type of captain and person he is. Great fishing, great conversation, excellent service, and a captain who goes above and beyond for his customers. If you’re looking for a Lake Erie walleye charter, book Captain Jim Wick. We would absolutely fish with him again. 18 walleye and a great day on the lake — couldn’t ask for much more! 🎣

    Good time!

    4 Hour Afternoon Trip • 3 adults • 1 child

Had a great day on the water with Captain Jim. His communication leading up to the trip was prompt and responsive. Had a bit too much wind to go out on the lake but Captain Jim was able to improvise and put us on fish in the bay area. Myself and my 7 year old both had a great time and came home with some good tasting Walleye.

    Response from Captain

Thanks! I’m glad you and Oen made the trip up, enjoy the fish fry!

My 10 yr old son and I had an awesome time fishing with Captain Jim. His boat and gear are excellent and he knows the lake bery well. He put us right on the fish were and we hit our limit and caught some real nice ones. Jim was super patient with my son and taught us some new fishing tricks and cool facts about the lake. Looking forward to another trip in the fall!

What's biting with Swick's Sportfishing LLC in Lakeside Marblehead

Walleye and Yellow Perch fishing is excellent at the beginning of the month but tends to slow down as the waters gradually begin to cool. This is also the end of the charter season on Lake Erie, and by mid-November, most boats are out of the water.

Fall Walleye Limits on Lake Erie

Oct 24, 2026 • Lakeside Marblehead
Fall Bite is ON!! Quick limits once we found them! Sent Daniel and Yvette back to Chicagoland with 3 gallons of nice fillets to cap off a Gorgeous day on Lake Erie! Started out E. of Kelley’s in shallow water. After very little activity other than a nice smallmouth we headed East until we liked what was on our sonar. Flicker Minnows both high and low in the water column took our fish; 45’ behind our Offshore planer boards and 110’ back with an added 2oz weight. Capt. Jim is entered into all 3 Fall walleye derby’s and welcomes those who want to participate. (You must already be entered) Open dates for ALL from now until the end of the year. Contact me for details.

Big Bite on Purple Flicker Minnow

Oct 3, 2026 • Lakeside Marblehead
Fall weather is here, and it was an awesome day to be back on the water! The nice thing about the islands area is that regardless of a strong NE wind, we can almost always find a protected spot and still catch fish. I had the pleasure today of taking Oen and his dad, Paul, out this afternoon. The fishing was like a coaster ride in reverse. It was down, then UP! Spot #2 was quite a fire drill starting out. After a slowdown, Oen got us back on track by picking out a Purple Flicker Minnow, which then landed perhaps the biggest fish of the trip. We ran Flicker Minnows 10-45’ back behind our boards today. Beautiful sunset tonight to end the trip.

Walleyes, Cats & Sheepies Near Huron

Aug 15, 2026 • Lakeside Marblehead
Still Catching! Had to stray away from our recent hot spot we’ve been fishing. Only a couple nice walleyes to show for and a big smallie that came loose on an acrobatic move. Went on a 15 mile long search that landed us in 10-18’ of water near Huron. It was steadily busy thereafter for the remaining 2 hours of the morning trip and again for the afternoon party. Plenty of walleyes for everyone to have a big fish fry and a few monster Cats and Sheepies to keep everyone on their toes!

Lake Erie Walleye Limits and Quality

Aug 9, 2026 • Lakeside Marblehead
Limits again today for 1st time Lake Erie Walleye fishers Matt and Boston. Good going guys! Same program again today. Just a bit more challenging as the fish seemed to be holding tight to one area with several boats and many weeds adrift. Wowzers though, nice grade of fish! Enjoy the fish fry!

S30, episodes 21 and 22 of Planer Boards

Jul 26, 2026 • Lakeside Marblehead
Walleye fishing was Great again this weekend!! The East side of Kelly’s Island produced a good grade of fish up to 27” long today! They’re actively feeding on both shiners and shad—they’re puking them up in the fish tank. The morning trip was with Jack and Bill Robinette, up to visit the peninsula for the weekend. We started in the same spots as last weekend with flicker minnows in white and perch-colored patterns out behind our boards, just 30-40 feet. Before we could get the last rods set, it was “Game On!!” Ideal speed was about 2.2 mph. Limits of walleye were caught, along with a couple nice smallmouth and only one or two farm animals. The second trip was with the Westfall party—Rachael, Cody, and Chad. Although the sun was high and the water was clear, the fish stayed right where we left them. It’s like the Golden Corral—those big fish don’t stray too far from the Smorgasbord! Shortly into the second trip, Cody started us out with a slam dunk on a nice 27” fish!! ?Limits of fish were had by all, and it was a Beautiful day on this Great Lake! Ended out with a treat from Brown’s, a fresh Catawba peach Sundae! ? Good Luck to the Softball Girls today and GO Quakes! (Exception to 9/26, GO Bears!) Trip is available for next Sunday.
