Had a great time!  Took my daughter with me and the captain taught us how to catch grouper.  We are pretty good fisherman from the East Coast of the US, but grouper is a different game.  Lost maybe 5 or 6 but kept going to eventually catch one. 

We also went mahi and yellow tail fishing toward the end, but didn’t get any because we ran out of time.  But we were OK with that since we checked the bucket list with the grouper.

We had to deal with Hurricane Priscilla earlier in the week, which closed all the Cabo ports.  We really wanted to fish on this trip, and Edgar made it possible.  We took a beautiful drive from Cabo to La Paz to avoid high winds and waves on the Pacific Ocean. This drive was better than Route 1 in California! Easy, modern, toll-free highway all the way there and an even better drive back to Cabo with the sun setting over the Pacific.  Let me be debunk the “Facebook” crowd. There is no danger on this drive.  No cows in the road, etc. A cow can’t even get down to the roads. The worst is a few potholes. Now, let’s get to fishing. The Sea of Cortez is completely different with the most gorgeous water and shades of blue.  Edgar worked hard to put us on the fish.  He was very flexible as we were running a little late from Cabo Wabo last night.  We landed several quality fish and even lost “the big one.” I highly encourage fishermen visiting Cabo to make the easy 2 hour drive to fish with Edgar. Edgar speaks perfect English and has a very calm disposition.  The perfect trip ensued.

Myself and my wife had the best day with Edgar, he was really friendly, very knowledgeable, and got us on the fish very quickly. We caught mackerel, mahi mahi, red snapper, rooster fish, and a few skipper Jack. All topped off with a great lunch and dinner at the restaurant by the marina eating our catch. Already looking forward to our next trip with Edgar, couldn’t recommend him enough.

We came out with Edgar during the shoulder season with a plan to fish with him for 2 days.  We went out the first day in search of Mahi, with a bit of success, and a bycatch of a huge needlefish and a few scattered skipjack.  Day 2 we arrived earlier and Edgar was able to get us out on his new boat, a larger super panga, which meant getting to spots faster and being more comfortable on the boat.  My group of 3 was able to each boat some really nice size Mahi, with a few scattered smaller models.  We also landed a Mako shark! Edgar fileted all the fish we decided to keep and bagged it up for us.  We packed and froze at our Airbnb and brought back home with no issues.

What set Edgar apart was his knowledge of these waters.  He has been fishing this area for many many years and knew the best spots to get us on fish, even when the fish were hard to find.  Both days he went above and beyond trying to find us something to catch.  In addition, he has a ton of relationships with other fisherman and was on the radio with them sharing info to help find the productive water.

We have become avid roosterfish anglers, and traveled specifically to La Paz to fish these in particular.  We spent two days with Edgar, with Day 1 success catching two Spanish mackerel, one red snapper, and a couple of needlefish.  We told Edgar we wanted to catch roosters, and we went to the next spot, and hooked one, which got away.  But, we saw many more chasing on the surface, and so we decided to fish the next day, which he was able to accommodate.

What a day!  Between my husband and I, we caught a large yellowtail, four roosters (with mine being the largest at 52 pounds), needlefish, and a Jack Crevalle.  It was a great day on the water, and we will definitely be back.  Thanks Edgar!
