Capt. Paul grew up fishing in the area, spending most of his childhood on the reef fishing for Snapper. This was an experience of a lifetime. Captain Paul and First Mate Tony were professional and very good at their job, finding and catching fish. Everyone had a great time and we enjoyed every minute. Thank you for a super experience and look forward to doing a longer (full day) trip in the future!

The good -
This boat is large, clean and comfortable. The captain and mate were helpful and friendly. Captain Paul was great at communicating before the trip since there were some weather possibilities.

The bad -
We could literally swim from the place we anchored to fish from back to the boat slip. And we anchored right in a busy channel.  The explanation was that the fish hang out in the channel because the fishermen dump their scraps there. I understand that, but it wasn’t fun to any of the 6 of us on the boat being so close to where the boat parks. I think it should be stated VERY CLEARLY in the description of the trip that the boat barely leaves the dock. Then people could make an informed decision.

The neutral -
We didn’t catch a single fish, but that’s the unpredictable nature of fishing. Captain Paul did discount our trip fee.

Captain Paul provided a great day on the water for our party of four. In spite of tough fishing conditions we had a nice catch of tuna and mahi mahi. The crew worked hard to get us into the fish and fill our cooler. After a fun adventure Captain Paul made a dinner reservation for us to have a dinner of fresh fish at a local restaurant.

It would be unfair to give a poor review just because we didn’t catch anything. Fishing for Tarpon and Shark (Nurse Shark) we were quickly surrounded by several sharks but the hits were bull shark and several runs were cut short by the shark biting through the line. Josh (the mate) was quick to move to heavier equipment but despite strenuous efforts on his side the bites simply stopped. Another boat apparently dumped its bait bin upstream of us which most likely was the reason for the sharks moving on to ‘richer’ pastures, leaving us dry… It was a good day to be a fish.

We had a great time, and would reccomend Captain Paul Johnson and Reef Runner Charters to anyone looking for a good boat and great crew!

Tough day on the water as all boats struggled. We were one of a few to get lucky and land a sailfish. Crew worked really hard and was very friendly and helpful.

Thanks for your patience
It was a slow day of fishing (but good to be a fish)
