Reef Runner Charters offer both reef and offshore fishing charters from Islamorada, Florida. This long running company can boast of over 30 years of sportfishing experience and has many loyal repeat customers. They cater to anglers of all levels of experience and run a family friendly sportfishing operation.

Their 40 foot boat provides a sturdy and comfortable ride to the fishing grounds. The four chairs on the deck provide for a number of anglers at once, while a head and flybridge will keep you comfortable throughout the trip. All the latest in fishing, electronic and safety equipment is provided on board, with the use of quality Okuma tackle included in the price of the fishing trip.

Reef Runner Charters mostly fish with live bait, which is usually fished for at the beginning of the charter trip. Then the fishing starts. With Sailfish swimming the nearshore waters just a mile to a mile and a half offshore in the Winter, the action can get hot very early on. Maybe you will want to fish the reefs for great tasting species such as Snapper, or fish for Tuna about 12 miles offshore. Otherwise, you might want to travel further out in the summer to fish for Mahi Mahi, Wahoo and Blue and White Marlin.

Whatever your target, the experienced and enthusiastic captain and crew will do everything they can to put you on fish, offer a professional service and share their passion for fishing with you.

About the Captain

Paul Johnson
Islamorada, Florida, United States
Member since August 2015
Capt. Paul grew up fishing in the area, spending most of his childhood on the reef fishing for Snapper. All he wants to do is share his passion for fishing with other people, which is why he's now been in the charter business for 36 years. Many happy customers and successful trips later, he still can't get enough of watching his customers reeling in a huge Mahi or Marlin.

Captain Paul provided a great day on the water for our party of four. In spite of tough fishing conditions we had a nice catch of tuna and mahi mahi. The crew worked hard to get us into the fish and fill our cooler. After a fun adventure Captain Paul made a dinner reservation for us to have a dinner of fresh fish at a local restaurant.

It would be unfair to give a poor review just because we didn’t catch anything. Fishing for Tarpon and Shark (Nurse Shark) we were quickly surrounded by several sharks but the hits were bull shark and several runs were cut short by the shark biting through the line. Josh (the mate) was quick to move to heavier equipment but despite strenuous efforts on his side the bites simply stopped. Another boat apparently dumped its bait bin upstream of us which most likely was the reason for the sharks moving on to ‘richer’ pastures, leaving us dry… It was a good day to be a fish.

We had a great time, and would reccomend Captain Paul Johnson and Reef Runner Charters to anyone looking for a good boat and great crew!
