Taupo, New Zealand
- Background
- The Taupo Boating & Fishing Charters crew have years of experience fishing their local lake and all over New Zealand. They're committed to providing a professional, knowledgeable service, teaching you all about these productive waters, and are happy to fulfil whatever specific requirements you may have. Your captain, Dan Wood, loves meeting new people and hopes to put a smile on your face when you come aboard.
- Techniques
- After many years of Fly Fishing in rivers and Lakes throughout New Zealand I eventually was attracted by the relative comfort of boat fishing. The traditional, so called purist Fly Fishermen will often express their views on how boat fishing requires little skill or knowledge. I can tell you that Boat Fishing for Trout is a whole new adventure. Understanding the feeding, breading, seasonal, boat speed, weather, lake geography and the numerous other factors will directly affect the catch rate. Techniques employed by us include Deep Water Trolling with Downriggers, Harling and my favourite - Jig Fishing. These techniques are to be employed to align with the various factors to decide the best option for the time of day or season. Rod handling and lures used, whether feather or metal/plastic are another knowledge base altogether. I share my knowledge and impart my skills whenever a Client Fisherman or interested newcomer displays an interest to gain appreciation of this magnificent sport
