Strong winds make getting offshore difficult but there's plenty of action in the shallows. Roosterfish and Snook are biting hard in the river mouths while Mackerel and Jacks hunt in the bays.

The deep sea fun can still be patchy in February. When it's good, it's really good. When it's not, you can chase monster Roosterfish and Snook in the shallows instead.

Jack Crevalle, Snook, Roosterfish, and Sierra Mackerel are all on form this time of year. The reefs are always productive and the offshore bite gets more reliable as the winds start to die down.

April is the hottest month of the year in Costa Rica. It's also the last of the dry season, so make the most of the sunny skies and hit the water for a deep sea or inshore sight fishing trip.

The big game season really gets going in May, with Sailfish, Black and Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, and Wahoo. You couldn't ask for a better cast of characters!

All your favorite pelagic predators are going strong offshore while the reefs start filling up with tasty Red and Cubera Snappers. Inshore, there are always some Roosters and Snook to fight.

Locals commemorate Guanacaste's annexation to Costa Rica from Nicaragua on the 25th. That's not the only thing worth celebrating – Blue Marlin are in their prime this time of year!

The Presidential Flamingo Fishing Rodeo is the biggest event in the Playa Flamingo fishing calendar. Anglers join from across the country and far beyond to take on the area's huge Billfish.

The rains are at their heaviest in September, taking the humidity through the roof. Escape offshore to get some air or jump in the water after battling Snook and Roosterfish inshore.

The rains dump all kinds of flotsam into the water, making the perfect hunting grounds for big Mahi Mahi. Turn these predators into your prey and enjoy some amazing FAD fishing offshore!

Can't face another Turkey this year? Hit the reefs to reel in Cubera Snapper, Broomtail Grouper, and Amberjack instead. You're in for a real feast after one of these thrilling nearshore trips.
